I'm bored...why not harass someone?

I am writing tonight with regards to your Top Stories page, and the daily update emails I've been receiving. I am a local resident, who has lately been trying to read your site for news and information, and tonight I feel that I absolutely must comment that I am consistently finding the copy on both the site and within the email to be atrociously written, and there are far too many spelling and grammar errors for your news outlet to even begin to be taken seriously.

There have been times at which I've been utterly flabbergasted at poor wording, and other times when I've actually been flung into fits of giggles at the ridiculous mistakes and/or very badly worded phrases.

In browsing through the "Top Stories" of today, I see countless instances of misplaced commas, periods, poorly formed sentences, forgotten capitals...do you use elementary school students for these tasks? I should think that on the internet where you can be and are seen the whole world over and where the nature of the medium itself means that your whole means of attracting attention and readership (and hopefully thereby viewership and increased advertising dollars) is in your written presentation, the minimum you'd be striving for would be correct basic grammar and spelling.

A perusal of the "Top Stories" from just April 26th and 27th shows countless instances of misspelling, forgotten capital letters, mistyping, misplacements and worse, random placements of commas and apostrophes. I had considered cutting and pasting or making reference to those of the last two days, but there were far too many. In my view, it is an embarrassment for you to continue with this shoddy output. It is my sincere hope that you are very soon able to have this page and it's content, as well as the update mails, produced or at minimum monitored by someone more able to form writings which follow at very least basic English language rules.

In closing, here is something from your email of today - a heritage for us all to be proud of? - Also tonight, investigators search for more victims in an internet porn bust, uncovering our local heritage and your full weather details.

sent in reference to this page

will update if a)I get a response b)I get served with a restraining order

perhaps I should take up reading those old fashioned-books on paper again.

Actually, it should be don't end a sentence with a preposition. Where the hell did I dangle a participle & get yelled at ;)

But trustees decided last night against paying for transportation, although , they will continue to allow the students to attend the closer schools, as long as they find their own way there.
:retard:

but on a side note, this is disturbing me.
A very graphic lesson about the dangers of street and school gangs for students of Uptergrove Public School in Ramara Township yesterday. Ontario Provincial Police and Toronto Police Services officers showed hundreds of Grade 7 and 8 students a video showing shootings, stabbings and other gang related violence and the consequences. Some of the images were so shocking students left the room. Police warn one of the biggest factors in the increase in youth violence is gang activity
um...wtf?
I remember learning from a cop how to roll a good d00b, but now they're showing them how to effectively stab?
Nothin is teaching these kids faster how to be gangstas than the media (and now the cops are at it?!?!?!) showing them how others do it.

Discuss.

not the same thing at all.

kids in buttfuck way north canada would have no idea about any of this shit were it not for media...news, info, entertainment is great, but there's a massive downside.

and do the cops need to be perpetuating it?

Aaron the Copy Editor strikes again. I cleaned up your text for you.

yes, but I don't work there...

and I guess you have more of an appreciation for commas than I - and in my defence on one of 'em at least, we don't put one at the end of a list - i.e. I just woke up because of hunger, thirst, a series of bad dreams and extreme heat. :p

If it's the comma before and after the "and worse" part, the "worse" made all the difference in that. I also added in a few commas to break up the sentences to give the reader a chance to stop and take a breath. Some of your sentences were almost three whole lines long (at 1024x768) and needed some breaking up.

My rule of thumb is: generally, put the commas where you would paude for a second if you were reading that sentence out loud. Sure, that doesn't cover lists and things of that type, but it's a good general rule. I also open and close mid-sentence dependent clauses with commas, to differentiate them as adding information but not being critical for the basic point of the sentence to be made.

Example: "I told Leslie, the tired mother of three, what she typed wrong in her letter." I still could have made the point without saying you're a tired mother of three, but it adds a little info.

Glad to be of service. ^_^

I've pondered them at all hours of the day, trust me. :p

Thanks, Inky. If you hadn't, I would've. Then she be mad at me.

Did I mention my mother is an English teacher? I write quite well, it's typing that kicks my ass.
