Iraqi women decry move to cut rights

It does amaze me how many thought Iraq would fashion themselves after the US once we 'liberated' them...:disgust2:

The problems are only just beginning.

This is the point I think most people in the west miss. Because our society works (more or less) most of us seem to think everyone else should want it too. The poeple of Iraq don't want a western democracy, they want a theocracy based on Islam. This is the reason we can't succeed. They likely always will. I just can't understand why so many people have so much trouble accepting this, when it's clearly why Muslim countries think western influence is bad. From their point of view, it is.

Their government should be rebuilt properly first before they start changing and abolishing old laws.
The country is still in chaos with American troops running the place, all involved need to clean up their act before anything else happens.

Fact remains that their law system as well as their economic and social systems are wholly governed by Islam, which is their chosen religion (or in some cases forced on them by sheer dumb luck of being born in a certain region). It is arrogant to assume that they would want to give it up as it would in essence mean that they would need to declare everything they have believed in all their lives as fallacies. It is needed though that democratic principles be incorporated into the theocracy if the country is to hold it's own among the western countries and not depend on continuous outside piggy-backing, as the case has become in many African countries.

it was arrogant but born again bush even called this a modern day crusuade. it is also the ide that it is not free if it is Islamic or any other theocracy.

You have done what others couldn't. Congratulations.

I have been rendered uttlerly speechless by that drivel.

where at?bush said it but was stoped from making it public to stop from offending the Muslim community. The part about teh theocracy? how would we consider it free if it isnt a democracy?
