many in europe think we drink too heavily, as a culture we tend to binge drink more but i don't know about comparitive volumes. personal experience hasn't put me contact with anyone [with the exception of soem of the rowdier rugby lads] who drinks too much and might be considered alkies.
i would say this though, the only person i've ever met who seemed to hit the bevvies a little hard was a dane. and he didn't think he drank all that much, in fact he had cut back D
