Its in the HDTV 'god' class of mega monolith tvs. It was just delivered this morning... and I'm looking at the better part of the day to try and set it up. Its more complicated than a fighter aircraft and comes with... some... assmebly... required. Toshiba 60 inch liquid crystal

My old tv was a simple 19 inch tube style on basic cable. By friday, I should be on digital/HDTV signal ... yipee!

i still have a console tv....one of those fake wood looking ones... :crying4:
cool for you, unc! bet that'll be some vivid porn.....

And Unc was never seen nor heard from again.......

Seriously, just wait til you get some good DVD Porn on that thing, I hear it's like being there. :wink2:

The cat likes it. Building the base requires allen wrenches, a hammer, a screwdriver and a baggy with more trinkets than are in your cars engine. This is going to take a while. Then I have to wait for someone to come home and help me pick the thing up and place it.

The surround sound dvd dealy with 6 speakers is going to be a hassle. I have a bag with like 8 types of feed cables that have to be run all over as well as a spool of 14g speaker wire that I will have to cut custom and place ... yuk

shhheeeeit... just having them all drag it into the house and proving to me that the tv works is all they do. They were here 10 minutes... and that cost 44$. Getting the planitum ass kissing treatment would have cost 300$

I was hastily cutting open the boxes to make sure that it was all factory cherry and not repacked castoffs. The stand has 2 glass shelves. I really wanted to make sure that they were AOK.

So far, so good.

The pic is showing the manual 4:3 ratio. The true 16:9 format is doable with the touch of a button. That would be the extra 7 inches of space on the screen that isnt being used. I can force the 4:3 format to show as 16:9 ... but it makes everyone look fat.

damnit :( I need a job. I was gonna buy a 73" with some of my saving when i got a job, bt I cant find a damn thing.

still congratilations on your big tv i am happy for you :(

73?! good lord... what is the format? projection?

The stand is now ready, btw. Now I just need 4 people and a dogsled team to hoist it into position so I can start mucking with the electronics. The Sony surround is rated at ~800 watts ... so I might need to up my homeowners insurance in case I blow out my windows.

Yea I want a 16:9 mitsubitsi projection :(

fuck someone needs to get me a job :(

I didnt realize that those projections required so much assembly. that sucks.

Setup is a snap if you only want basic cable and can live with the factory speakers that are inbedded in it. But who the heck is going to buy a god tv and not go ass over teakettle to stuff it with every bell and whistle that they can? Theres a 3 piece wire for digital video that makes an s-video link look sad. There is also a 2 piece wire for the stereo unit as well as another 2 piece wire that is strictly for digital audio. Then youre also talking multiple wires running through a power conditioning transformer and a beast of a $100 surge supressor. Then you also have the HDTV box with its wire set. Then there are also the 6 speaker wires that I will have to cut by hand as the lengths needed are custom to each setup. There is also a dvd player imbedded in to digital decoder dealy aside from the setup. That will be 3 wires. The master stereo control box will take it from 30 watts to the ~800 ... wires ... wires. sheesh.

hey, unc....when you're done with all that wanna come and teach me how to program my vcr? that flashing 12:00 is driving me crazy....

tonks, it's super easy

just put a peice of tape over it, that is what I had to do to my mom's when i ran out of patience

So then, Unc. I'm guessing the Super Bowl Party is at your house this year, correct?

damn Unc, very nice setup you have there. If i was down there id help ya with the wiring placement, been there done it for a few years. I love the toshiba bigboys. very crisp clear piccys. and PT is right on the dvd quality youll have to have the screen protected during viewing pleasure. :)

Super Bowl? Sure... c'mon over. The big networks broadcast on HDTV full time now. It would be astounding to see. I still don't have a couch yet.. so get used to the idea of becoming one with the rug.

my all time fav test movie for digital surround and video quality is outbreak, the scene with the huey choppers should be enough to rattle the lights on the second floor easily. plus you should actually feel them flying by you.another good testing movie is true lies. the shoot out scene at the pier. you should hear the gun fire in the front of you and the casing falling behind you.
are you using ac3? if so hold on tight.
