Martha Stewart goes to jail!

:rofl3:

She's a scapegoat. And a wealthy white woman, perceived by many to have an attitude problem. Did this perception lead to her conviction?

"Maybe it's a victory for the little guys who lose money in the market because of these kinds of transactions," said juror Chappell Hartridge."

Way to put it, Chappell...

"Stewart, who averted more than $51,000 in losses by selling when she did, was not charged with insider trading; instead, she and her broker were accused of lying about the transaction and altering records to support the alleged cover story."

So? At least they got somebody on something...

Before you write me a scathing, and biting, retort, take a look at my second comic. ;)

While I think she did what they accused her of, this was always my problem. Basically she was accused of lying about a crime she wasn't charged with.

It's one of those "catch-all" things. Like "Conduct unbecoming" in the military...

Oh, I understood it, I just found it a little odd in this case.

If your case is thin, pile a lot of little nit-noy things on top of it, and you could convict anybody.

:confuse3: if someone robbed a bank of $51,000, none of you would question that the person was a felon and should be punished. I don't understand what everyone is upset about...

I'm not upset. She did it, she might even get what she deserves. I'm just lamenting the fact that it's like catching a minnow in the ocean. Yeah, you can eat it, but you're not going to be satisfied. If someone robbed a bank of $51,000 it certainly wouldn't be the lead news story day after day on the national news.

Unfortunately, that was the charge that the judge threw out, so we have to settle for her perjury and fraud convictions.
