RACINE, Wis. (AP) - Just sipping a brewski gave Isac Aguero a career hangover.

Aguero, 24, said he was fired from his job with a Miller Brewing distributor, the same day a picture appeared in the Journal Times of Racine of him drinking a Bud Light, which is brewed by rival Anheuser-Busch Co.

The photo, taken Feb. 5, was part of the newspaper's weekly "On the Town" feature, which depicts the city's night life.

Aguero, who had been a forklift operator at CJW Inc. for four years, told the newspaper he was informed by co-workers when he arrived at work last week that he was in trouble because of the picture.

He said he was called into the general manager's office and told he was fired. Aguero said he was not given a reason and claimed he never had problems with his bosses.

"It was a Saturday and I wasn't at work," he told The Journal Times. "They can't tell me what beverages I can drink. Bud Light's my beer of choice, I always drink that. Just because I work there, do I have to change what I drink?"

Thomas Bey, a CJW sales manager, read a statement to the Associated Press on Friday and would not answer any questions. He said the company does not publicly discuss past or present employees.

"We consistently remind our employees that drinking alcohol is entirely a personal decision," Bey said. "The image and reputation of any company is determined in large part by the way its employees are seen to behave. Our employees can and should be our best ambassadors."

I've posted this here in the Real world to discuss what seems to be a rather serious matter affecting the public workforce. First we had someone fired because he smoked at home. Then we hear about suggestion of required fitness. And now, a guy, drinking a beer on his own time, gets canned. (Remember, that's alledged) I mean, what the hell is going on? Did we suddenly become part of Japan?

Oh, I think it's worse than Japan (maybe not). I'm reminded that one of my first posts on this forum was, "Remember when this used to be America?" The sad thing is, rather than being outraged, a lot of people will cheer these fascist bastards on. Welcome to the United States of do what we tell you, we know whats good for you.

It appears to me that we have entered an era where people need a job worse than a company needs an employee. I blame some of this on automation. True skilled labor in most factory settings is no longer at the premium it used to be.

My dad worked 30+ years at a factory. When he retired, his clock number was 1. He did tool and die, an unbelievably difficult job. He was excellent at it. So much so that, when he retired, they outsourced this job to another company, stating that it was not worth trying to train anyone to do what he could do, and cheaper to bring in an outside source than to rely on the guy who worked beside my dad for 27 of those years to do it properly. (That guy was something of a fuckup...)

Nowadays a lot of factory work doesn't require much skill on the human who ocupies the position. Hence, people are becoming less and less valuable to companies. After all, machines don't get pregnant, catch the flu, steal ink pens, take vacations, or require pension funds.

I bet he makes a little cash from his 15 minutes of fame though. Im SURE Budweiser will want to talk with him. See its still America where you can make tons of money for not being able to sing or for being fired because you like the competition. In Japan you would simply go home in disgrace.

If this man were paid to endorse Miller than yes, what he did could be terms for firing. But he was paid to operate a forklift. What the hell does operating a forklift have to do with what this man chooses to do on his weekends? Miller does not own this man. They cannot tell him that he is not allowed to drink another beer, in public or not. I know that employees are not allowed to share the secrets of the company, or give away marketing and merchandising info and such, but holy crap. The guy was haning out and drinking a beer after a long week of work. WTF?

I knew there was a reason I never liked Miller.
