Stevie Wonder - greatest singer/songwriter ever IMO, and a thoroughly kind and generous guy. Incredibly gifted with absolutely sublime and brilliant musical taste/creativity (pre 1980, lol). Truly understood where music was coming from and where it was going. One of the few musicians to ever gain true respect from both commercial and more elitist, professional audiences. I'll never tire of listening to albums such as Songs In The Key of Life, Innervisions or Talking Book.

Bruce Lee - most prolific martial arts exponent of all time and some would say one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters ever. Unbelievably disciplined and pushed the limits of human physical ability and durability. Lived and died in true rock 'n' roll style and was an idol to millions. Perhaps had the greatest screen presence in the history of cinema.

Seymour Cray - bit of an engineering legend. Practised eng in it's purist form - in a crappy little building, into the early hours of the morning, hehe. Techinically a genius, he would startup companies and make them grow at an incredible rate on the back of his brilliance. Then he would leave as the onslaught of management/marketing B$ ate away at his artform, starting up a new company that would quickly grow to rival the one he just left! Necessarily arrogant, but otherwise a decent, albeit reserved chappie.

Aristotle-- Prolific writer, astoundingly original thinker. Western civilization stands on his shoulders.

John Locke-- The founder of liberal democracy. The theoretician behind the American system of government.

Ayn Rand-- Brilliant thinker. The person who people will look back on as the savior of western civilization.

Noah's wife of "Noah's Ark" fame ... she brewed beer and used sex as a weapon ... fantastic lady.

Phil Collins ... brilliant lyricist ... English ... very very talented ... drummer ... south paw ... need I say more?

ku'u (no, I'm not kidding) ... she's the best editor and translator I have ever, EVER, EVER seen ...

Robin Williams: He is very intelligent as well as funny, enough said here.

Jim Carrey: He is really silly which teaches people that you can be yourself and a little crazy sometimes.

Maya Angelou: One of the best writers I've ever seen. She writes deep with her soul. She inspires me to be a poet.

Albert Einstein: He understood the universe around us at a completely deeper level than most of us do.

Muddy Waters: Greatest bluesman that ever drew breath.

Isaac Asimov: One of the most prolific writers ever. I like his fiction, his non-fiction and his essays. I learned more about science (and the science of science) in my youth from him than any other source.

Jesus Christ(Not a martyr): For doing what he didn't have to do.

Bill Cosby: For standing for family and morals when it's so unpopular. (Judge him as you will nobodies perfect. Well...almost nobody)

Mahatma Ghandi: For relentlessly standing up for what is right dispite personal suffering.

Bill Gates: I know, I'll take some shit for this one, but that was one smart guy. His business dealings may have been less than perfect, but the man knew what was coming.

Jeff Healey: Blind guitarist and singer. I wish I had 1/1000 of this mans talent with a guitar.

Michael J. Fox. Man could have just gone into hiding and been left alone, he faced the world and continues to do so.

Patricia Schairer... The woman I'm named after, a family friend for many many years. A woman who lived through watching her husband die and raised all of her kids to be wonderful people and then, at age 50, decided she wanted to be a lawyer. So she went to law school and became a lawyer and does mostly charitable law work with a little paid on the side to keep her bills paid. Then she lived through a crippling car accident and still has an optimistic spirit and kindness that I have never seen in another human being.

Mary Kealy... My mother's mother. Died when I was very young but before so, instilled in me a love of reading and humor. Upon her death, the first I experienced in my family, taught me about regret and making sure that you tell people you love them before it's too late.

Martin Luther King Jr.... Standing up for what you believe in in the face of adversity, being a leader for equality, need I say more?

hey greenie - I just reread the question and it seems you and I both broke the "rule" .. not friends or family :D ... oh well .. bygones .. hehehehehe

Ghandi: he believed in peace and used non violence to protest the British. he didnt give up his morals for victory.

Nietzsche: the idea of the overman something to accomplish as well as being strong.

George Washington: liberty and freedom were worth dying for and still are

Yeah - sorry, I put that in because in the forum I got this idea from nearly everybody posted about friends and family. Different kind of inspiration I think... tainted by love.

Cheers for posting - some good ones mentioned. :)

Einstein - physics genius...

Was that always in the thread title or was it changed later? If it was always, I'm not very observant, huh?

I'm not changin my answers. :p

You know, i actually respect Einstein for his character more than his genius. He was just as rich in character as he was a brilliant physicist.

I liked the fact that he dossed about at school and underacheived yet turned out to be pretty smart in the long run. :D
