The NY Times has a story about teen pregnancy rates dropping off dramatically. Which is great news. Buried deep in to the story is this line;

But better contraceptive practices and delays in first intercourse have contributed about equally to a 35 percent decline in birth rates among 15- to 17-year-olds in the United States, and to an even more impressive 46 percent decline among non-Hispanic blacks that age, according to the C.D.C. analysis of several studies.

If contraceptives have been about equal with abstinence in the prevention, what would the decline have been had the abstinence crowd not been scorned unabashedly? We all know that they're gonna do it anyway yet they aren't so much, are they?. If abtinence had been pushed would the decline have been 50%? 65%?
