Well, up to now I've been using a Radeon 64 MB VIVO card, which served me well for 2 odd years. I finally broke down and got a Radeon 9000 AIW. (I can't afford the 8500 AIW or 9700 AIW, and I want an AIW.)

It comes with a rather nifty remote control:

The remote is decent. Not using mine at all right now though, because a wireless keyboard will be far easier until I program a full command set. Bit of a waste really... =\

Hey MuFu, do you use your AIW for TV? Just wondering what you mean by a wireless keyboard being faster since the remote allows you to flip channels like a regular TV? Or am I missing something here?

Nah... I was using the remote with the HTPC which is mainly used for playing DVDs and DivX (as well as porn/music serving, routing etc...). I'll set up all the PVR and TV tuner crap later this year. Not much point at the moment because there's 6 guys sharing the big TV and the cable box never stays on the same channel for more than a couple of minutes.

I will definitely get round to installing the latest MMC and using the remote with a custom GUI as well. At the moment the keyboard is fine and easier to use for my mates (considering it's still basically a WinXP PC). It's also much easier to find when you're pissed, heh.

I tend to watch most films on my own PC though (because of the audio setup) - use an M$ RF mouse from the bed usually.

MuFu.

Hmm, my computer is good to go on the DVD and Xvid part, and I'm working on TV right now.

About the PVR, how do you intend on doing it? Do you have an external box doing it or are you going to do it on your computer? See, while I do have cable TV for the AIW's TV card, that is mostly for local channels and weather. The real gem is satellite TV.

For some reason, there is no video card that will decode satellite or digital cable signals. So, either way, you need an external receiver. The basic model doesn't allow for digital audio, and because I want that, I decided on the next model. That particular one (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/products/receivers/dishpvr508/index.shtml) has a PVR system built into it with an 80 GB hard disk.

Can I use the Gemstar Guide for satellite TV? I used to have an ATI USB TV gadget, and it provided local listings for my cable just fine. I didn't check if it support satellite though.

Last question.. Does the Audigy2 do Dolby Digital decoding on incoming audio? Ie, if I take the Dolby Digital out on my receiver and plug it into the optical SPDIF in on the drive, will it do the signal decoding? (If I have analog speakers plugged in)

Oh wait, one more last question. ;) Which ATI MMC software should I install with the 9000 AIW? There are so many and the rage3d forums are a bit confusing. Lol

Thanks Mufu baby.

One more last, LAST question. ATI's software does PVR too right? So I can use the software on my computer to do PVR for the cable TV connection and the external receiver's PVR system to do PVR on the satellite connection? Does that make sense? :retard4:

All on the PC using ATi MMC or Showshifter. Had it up and running for a while with the former and it was pretty decent. Nice and easy to use with the remote as well. You need quite a powerful PC for decent quality recordings though.

Ah... well in the UK we have 5 analogue terrestrial channels via RF and hundreds of digital ones via cable. It's cheaper than satellite (for us anyway) because you can bundle in internet access.

Weird. You can get them over here...

Not sure.

Yep.

Not sure - only have the drivers installed at the moment. Try the latest version for the AIW 9000 from ATi's site and see how it goes.

Yep and yep.

Thanks Mufu baby.

Fuck you, hoser.
