WASHINGTON, July 10 — Airline pilots could carry guns in the cockpit to defend their planes against terrorists under a bill the House passed overwhelmingly Wednesday despite the opposition of the White House. The legislation, approved by a vote of 310-113, would allow guns for more than 70,000 pilots if they agreed to undergo training. Lawmakers stripped out provisions that would have limited the program to some 1,400 pilots, about 2 percent of those flying.

Two thumbs up. This might be too much to ask, but let us hope the democrats have enough intelligence to support this in the Senate. Bush will be sure to sign it, so no problem there. ;)

The senate will be much closer, but probably pass as well. The president will veto it and it will die.

Will he? That would be kind of dumb, wouldn't it? I mean, it plays to his constuency, and if he can share the heat for it with Congress, why not?

Museum curators and agricultural inspectors can legally carry guns on commercial airliners, but the pilots cannot. What a world.

I guess we should start having armed museum curators on all domestic flights.
