NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The first contracts for rebuilding post-war Iraq have been awarded, and Vice President Dick Cheney's old employer, Halliburton Co., is one of the early winners.

The Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) unit of Halliburton (HAL: up $0.54 to $20.66, Research, Estimates), of which Cheney was CEO from 1995 to 2000, said late Monday that it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to put out oil fires and make emergency repairs to Iraq's oil infrastructure.

President Bush Tuesday asked Congress for $489.3 million to cover the cost of repairing damage to Iraq's oil facilities, much or all of which could go to Halliburton or its subcontractors under the terms of its contract with the Army.

Well, I for one am shocked, just shocked! Favoritism in politics?????

What was the war about again?

As the title says, No surprise here.

But really, how many companies out there are qualified to do this kind of work? That's a serious question, does Britain have a company like that?

hmm... I bid 489.2 million for that contract work. I beat their bid. I should have been given those contracts. FIIIIIX!

That is NOT a KICKBACK!!! It's a pension, damnit.

But Clinton's $60K real estate investment was worth a $40M investigation....This is getting to be a real bad fucking joke. :disgust2:

Cheney divested himself of all interest in Halliburton, the largest U.S. oilfield services company, after the 2000 election.
Hmmm

That's a serious question, does Britain have a company like that?
*frown* Probably not as big, but Bp comes to mind.

I doubt that will seem unusual to him, Q. Republicans are allowed to do those things without being questioned.

Well, I don't know the details behind the severance package, but why has that you worked up like that?

Um, maybe because after he got the severance package, they were awarded a 500 MILLION dollar government contract? HELLO? ARE YOU IN THERE?
