WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials say the Iraqi leadership has drawn "a red line" around the map of Baghdad and once American troops cross it Iraqi Republican Guards have been authorized to use chemical weapons, U.S. television networks reported on Monday.

The reports, by CNN, NBC and CBS's National Security correspondent David Martin, did not name the U.S. officials or give any further details.

To use them is such proximity, wouldn't it just drift back to them too though?

Like he's never used them on his own people. If the Coalition is that close to Bagdad all is lost for the ruling party already ,why not take out some enemy.

I realize that, but has he brainwashed his entire Republican guard that well too?

They might just wait till the wind is blowing the correct direction (away) or like Gonz said they may not know whats the consequences are. Either way the Rep.Guard also realizes(instilled in them) if they loose they are dead anyway. If its Anthrax/biological it won't kill immediately if its Chemical or Nuclear then they get their rewards from Allah all that much sooner.

VX Nerve Gas

Chemical Name: O-ethyl-S-(2-iisopropylaminoethyl) methylphosphonothiolate

Trade Name And Synonyms:
  • Phosphonothioic acid, methyl-, S-(2-bis(1-methylethylamino)ethyl) 0-ethyl
  • ester O-ethyl S-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl) methylphosphonothiolate
  • S-2-Diisopropylaminoethyl O-ethyl methylphosphonothioate
  • S-2((2-Diisopropylamino)ethyl) O-ethyl methylphosphonothiolate
  • O-ethyl S-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl) methylphosphonothioate
  • O-ethyl S-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl) methylthiolphosphonoate
  • S-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl) o-ethyl methyl phosphonothiolate
  • Ethyl-S-dimethylaminoethyl methylphosphonothiolate VX
  • EA 1701
  • TX60

Chemical Structure:
Code:
CH3 0 CH(CH3)2
   \||                /
    P - S - CH2CH2 - N
   / \
CH3CH2O CH(CH3)2

Effects of Overexposure: VX is a lethal cholinesterase inhibitor. Doses which are potentially life-threatening may be only slightly larger than those producing least effects. Death usually occurs within 15 minutes after absorption of a fatal dosage.

Emergency Aid for Inhalation: Hold breath until respiratory protective mask is donned. If severe signs of agent exposure appear (chest tightens, pupil constriction, incoordination, etc.), immediately administer, in rapid succession, all three Nerve Agent Antidote Kit(s), Mark I injectors (or atropine if directed by a physician). Injections using the Mark I kit injectors may be repeated at 5 to 20 minute intervals if signs and symptoms are progressing until three series of injections have been administered. No more injections will be given unless directed by medical personnel. In addition, a record will be maintained of all injections given. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation should be used when mask-bag or oxygen delivery'systems are not available. Do not use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when facial contamination exists. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. Seek medical attention Immediately.

Similar to sarin, it disrupts the functioning of nerves that control breathing. The victim dies of suffocation when the diaphragm fails to expand and contract. Unlike any other biological or chemical weapons, VX can kill simply by touching the skin.

Deadly Amount: One milligram can kill a person.

Symptoms: Increased salivation, coughing, runny nose, headache and nausea.

Oh yea, one more thing: painfully agonizing DEATH

Increased salivation, coughing, runny nose, headache and nausea.

Sounds like a night spent at the local bar to me. :D

Does anyone here think for a minute that the leadership of the Iraqi government even cares about their own people? Nada. They could give a rats ass who dies, as long as enemy troops are among those dead.

And the men in the trenches are going to blindly follow the Leadership.

Well, it depends which nerve agent they use. VX is too heavy really, and will probably not blow around a lot. GB, on the other hand, is rather light and will blow around and muck things up. But GB (sarin) isn't as lethal as VX.

I think some of the larger munitions like the daisycutter would burn a lot of that shit up. Of course, we start dropping daisycutters and all hell is going to break loose.

A daisycutter, or even a MOAB would just disperse it faster. You need incinerator temps to destroy that shit. A bomb of almost any kind is designed to disperse it's heat, not concentrate it.

If they are dropping Bombs of that Magnitude the Coalition forces aren't going to be anywhere near the impact site ,so I don't see any probs with unincinerated Chemical weapons.

I do. They're gonna have to walk through the leftovers, and clean up the mess. And some of that crap doesn't clean up very well

The only decent thing about the use of chemicals it is that 80% of the detractor nations to the war will jump to our side of the page and tow the line some. It would make the post war shakeout and great deal smoother.
