i found this site www.optoutprescreen.com while reading another article here http://www.epic.org/privacy/2004tips.html that was listed in the UMN tech brief. before i go giving them my personal information, i was wondering fi anyone has seen/used/heard of these jokers before?

Never heard of them. Verisign...on the bottom...aren't they a BBB of online sites?

unless i'm mistaken, verisign is just a certificate authority made a virtual monopoly by its supporters. all you need to get a certificate is $395

Not many thieves bother with a certificate. It's not the be all & end all of glad tidings but it is a stepping stone toward less concern.

if i were going to fleece people for all their personal/financial information, i'd consider the cost of a cert an investment. the fact that i heard about it through an official University publication lends it more credibility, but i'm still leery.
