I don't have enough information at this point to make a guess. At the moment, it looks like we're hoping to make them nnervous enough to act without additional prodding.

:elaugh1: He'll poke around and try to bait one of his favorites to invite war. I don't know which will win his attention, but rest assured, the victims of 911 will not be avenged.....

Never happen. They'll attempt to be a little more sly though...

If that is the case, then my vote will from undecided to yes. Many in the region are getting quite nervous at our unexpectedly quick triumph & sabre rattling. It may work.

You know one thing that Americans have always failed to grasp is that much of the Arab worlds rage stems from American and Israeli victories over them. These latest victories will not cause Arabs to think twice but cause their anger to become more inflamed imho.

I could give you a vote on whether they should, but whether they will is beyond me. They're certainly making noises about it, but I find it very had to read Bush. He's been keeping the diplomacy door open, which often makes him look weak to me; but at the same time he lets the Pentagon plan for war. My guess is that if Syria makes a major concession by reigning in the terrorists and allowing the Israeli/Palestinian peace plan go forward, he will hold back from going to war. If they give him any excuse, though, I think he would be happy to send in the troops. He said at the outset that we would be going after all those governments that sponsor terrorism, and Syria's high on the list.

You're generalizing. It isn't the entire Arab world, only a few nutbags. Didn't you see all the happy Iraqis cheering the United States?

To an extent i am generalizing. But this is true among the Arabs that are in control. Aren't they the ones that matter?
The Iraqi public are probably some of the most docile citizens in the Arab world next to Jordan & Iran.

Lord save us if they don't go after SA soon. SQ's gonna blow a gasket.

Squiggles doesn't want to go after SA, Prof, he just wants to make the problem to big to solve. He tried to deny it, but when I posted this in response, he dipped out of the conversation and never replied.

You mean they didn't hate the Jews when they attacked them, only after they got their butts kicked? ;)

I think the main point is that we don't need to worry about whether they like us, only whether they respect us enough to leave us alone. As a secondary point, I think they will like us much better once they are able to establish free countries, especially if we help with that process.

If the US and the Coalition is standing for what they say then if the Syrians keep aiding the enemy I would think we would but I am not in a position to call it but support it I would if they kept it up.BD

I just don't see it happening. The radical Arabs will not fear us until it's to late for them.

This i agree with. So ultimately i think the only way they're going to respect us is if we....'re-educate'* them.

*insert your own terminology.

Let me add that this means ending or manipulation of the middle east world and respecting them as a people.

NOw, if the question becomes "should we"...my answer is yes. As a state that sponsors terrorism, against the US, Israel & it's/their allies, it has become time to end the charade. "You want a piece of me...come get it"

Well 'should we' is irrelivent as we're not making the decisions.

I wish more people would actually vote though. I know more than six people have viewed this thread.

Hmm. I don't know whether we will, but if our goal is liberating opressed people, why not.
Couple of points IMHO:
1. The jews and arabs have hated each other for thousands of years, predating Islam, probably predating even Judaism. I think it's incredibly foolish to think that anything we can do will change that.
2. I'm reasonably sure the arabs fear a Christian nation coming in to convert them by the sword. I feel they are not without some historical justification for this belief.

I think it's interesting that several years ago (IIRC) Gary Kasparov made the comment that the US should heavily bomb both Iraq and Syria. Chess moves?
