Perhaps California Republicans should try this:

Texas Dems End Exile, Declare Victory
ALONG INTERSTATE 35, Texas - Runaway Democrats boarded two buses and returned home to Texas, destined for the state capital early Friday after their self-imposed weeklong exile in Oklahoma that succeeded in killing a redistricting bill they opposed.

The 51 Texas Democrats departed late Thursday from the Holiday Inn in Ardmore, Okla., 30 miles north of the state line, just before the redistricting bill died in Austin. A midnight deadline passed with no vote — due to a lack of House quorum caused by the absent lawmakers.

California is basically the opposite of Texas as far as political party alignment goes. In Texas, Republicans hold every statewide office, while in California Democrats hold them all. Republicnas here can't get anything done unless the Democrats are OK with it because they hold a strong majority, and you had best believe that the districting is done for that very reason. But there are only 32 republicans in the 80-seat Assembly, and state law only requires 41 for a quorum. That would mean the Democrats could get anything they want passed even if no Republicans show up.

I think that if I lived in a district represented by one of these job-shirking politico assholes, I'd be extremely pissed off. I think I'd also be looking at whatg would be required to oppose the fucker in the next election.

And before the question gets asked, yes, my opinion would be the same if it was the Republican pulling this bullshit.

Ditto. I heard about this yesterday from someone here at work, I can't imagine re-electing one of those bastards.

Guys, now settle down. The Dems are out of power & are looking at losing more in '04 & they have no clue how to play fair. It's their way or the highway. They want power, not results.

You could but you'd be wrong...the Dems have had power for over 40 years & have just recently lost it & the Reps haven't figured out how to abuse what they have, yet

Aren't the Republicans trying to redraw the districts to grab more seats.

There's more to the story than just "job-shirking", but I suppose we can simplify to make the insults easier.

It's called gerrymandering, flavio. Sad to think there's actually a word for it. Oh, and it's only wrong when the other guys are doing it, when your guys do it, it's "sensible reapportionment."

gerrymandering is pretty messed up when anyone does it.

They often redraw districts with odd little fingers sticking way up into another district just so includes a certain politicians house.

Hard to believe it's been an accepted practice for so long.
