Reports are coming out about the Democratic senator from South Dakota. He has had a an unknown severity stroke. If he dies, the law provides that the state governor can appoint a replacement for the duration of the term. The current governeor of South Dakota is a Republican. If he appoints a Republican, the balance in the Senate will fall to an even 50-50 split... with the vice president being the deciding vote... therefore making a Republican senate... and flopping all of the committee slots all over again before the Democratic majority even seats itself for the first time.
