recently installed celeron 300mhz CPU

for the last couple of weeks he's not been able to load windows 2000 Pro, he moved the computer across the room, it worked for a bit, went into sleep mode while he was on the phone, and since, every time he goes to reboot, the screen goes black at some point, the point varies...and there's nothing he can do.
at fury's suggestion he swapped the CMOS battery, that worked for a bit, but isn't any longer, now he's swapped out the CPU, still no go.
any ideas?
