Minnesota House of Representatives

Its not a used car; its 'preowned'.

Its not broken; its 'prestressed'.

Its not old junk; its an 'antique'.

A rose by any other name is still nothing but an effing tax.

I listen to Minnesota Sports Radio KFAN on a regular basis. Only baseball is happening right now, so they stray from sports fairly often these days. They are ripping their governor, Tim Pawlenty, over these "fees", saying it's nothing more than a tax (obviously). He's calling these things fees because he has presidential aspirations and the GOP will not nominate someone who has recently raised taxes.

Doublespeak from a politician? What is this world coming to? Next thing I know, y'all will be telling me the earth ain't flat no more.

Actually with out bothering to read the link I must say...

All taxes should be abolished in favor of a fee-based system.

Ayn Rand spoke to this in a very eloquent manner.

If you use a service of the government you pay a fee.

But of course within that dissertation she delineated clearly the 'services' our government was originally intended to 'provide', you know something about:
"defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic"

Providing for the common good shouldn't include the myriad welfare programs of today.

How could you be forced to pay a fee to provide crap for your fellow countrymen?

How would the 'fee' for foreign aid and wars be levied?

Income tax is clearly un-American.

Doublespeak I expect. Their stupidity rating soaring to the point of introducing laws like this is a new one.

They're simply playing down to the intelligence level of their government educated voter base. If it doesn't work this time, they'll quietly re-introduce it next year.
