The only registry cleaner I've ever used is HighjackThis. Probably not for "newbs." I'd just stick with the usual Spybot/Adaware if I were you.

I've been using "RegCleaner" for awhile, I like it, and it isn't tooo too difficult to use, and it's fairly hard to screw up if you're paying attention.

Pretty much totally automated. If you're going to muck around with the registry, though, and you're new at this, BACK IT UP FIRST!

Norton Systemworks has a nice Regcleaner. It's not called a registry cleaner, but that's what it does. If you've got systemworks, it's called Windows Fix or something like that.
