so this morning I'm listening to the news while I'm getting ready for the day ... and they're talking about some bombing that the US and allied forces did in this (I think they said 'residential') area that they believed Saddam was meeting with his sons ... so the reporter says (I'm paraphrasing):

"It was believed at first to be a 2,000 pound bunker bomb, however it was just a regular 2,000 pound bomb that made a 60 foot crater in the ground ..."

wtf? a regular 2,000 pound bomb? It's a 2phreakingthousand pound BOMB ...

war mentality ... it's just that phucked up ...

Well, if you're a journalist reporting on the war, you've got to be careful to get your facts right. Your 2000 lb bunker buster is quite a bit different from your ordinary 2000 lb bomb. The fact that they dropped a regular 2000lb bomb tells us that they were going for a surface target, and not one of those bunkers that Saddam has buried all over Baghdad, which means that the Pentagon can't say that they hit the residential area because there was a bunker buried underneath it. If they were trying to hit a bunker, they would've used a bunker buster... get it?

Btw, now that you're in the Real World, we're going to suck you in and keep you here forever, and ever... MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

yea it is. as much as this might seem out of place i want to say war sucks. all it is death and destruction with giant penises. the 2000 LB bomb was dropped as well as others in civilian areas
 
Regular bombs blow up the instant of contact on the surface. The bunker bombs have a time delay of a few miliseconds to allow the warhead to penetrate in deep like a dart before it blows up. Some bomb fuses are so nifty and smart that they can count the number of floors and blow up in the middle of a predetermined room. You should see that sucker in action ... running up and down the stairs, knocking on doors, bluffing guards.

From what I understand, the first bomb was to clear the surface of 'obstructions' so that the bunker-buster wouldn't detonate prematurely. Perhaps not the best way, but certainly effective.

Not to be an ass, but if anyone can think of a better way to get rid of a heavily fortified underground bunker, I'm all ears...

umm.. that wasn't the point to my thread or my post. the point was that there is no humanity in war and it is proven in the statement "regular 2000 lb bomb"... I wasn't looking for definitions (though I thank all of you who provided it) .. I am aware there are differences in bombs ... the point was if it's a 2000 lb bomb, it's still a 2000 lb bomb ... regular or decaf doesn't matter. To me, it just sounded stoopid .. and sad.

By the way, it wasn't a bunker.

It wasn't? Are you talking about 'Saddam is dead...maybe" or a seperate incident?
 
as far as the newscast I was watching this morning, they said it was a little restaurant in a residential area ... I haven't watched the news all day ... but again, that wasn't the point to my post anyway ...


does that not come across? that what was bombed or what happened wasn't the point of my thread? (save for you Prof - I know you got it :))
 
It came across...a bomb is a bomb. I was just a little confused on what incident you were keyed up on besides that. :shrug:
