Robots

Kidlet wants to go see it for his birthday on Monday.

It sounds cute, except

It’s an indictment on the soulless homogeneity of our image-conscious culture. (If you want to take it really seriously, even though your kids won’t, it’s about genocide.)
Anyone acquired it early or heard some decent opinions on it? I tend to keep them away from stuff like this - don't wanna depress them over the extra-appalling traits of humanity quite yet.

Most of the reviews I've seen say its more about consumerism.

Robots is a fable of old-school values under siege: The bots' war for access to those spare parts could almost be a commentary on our health-care system, and Ratchet and his cronies, who look about as organic as tinsel Christmas trees, are like the metallurgic products of cosmetic-surgery ''perfection.'' (Ratchet's mother, who resembles a Jabba the Hutt built out of moving wrenches, makes it clear he must have had a makeover.)

What the hell ever happened to a (presumed) kids movie about robots being about, robots?

That doesn't sell newspapers...they need to read into everything and then write about the stuff that they have made up and now see in it

I'm betting that's how my 3 YO is gonna view it. Personally, I'm in it for Robin Williams. I can easily overlook whatever pithy little message they've tried to infuse into it.

There's one coming out this weekend, Gonz. It's called "Robots." It's a cartoon.

That's what I thought when the boys started talking about it.

And when we got the "indictment of consumerism movie" watch out of the cereal box.

But then I thought I'd better check, and I was wrong. :(

I guess we're going. If they have to learn something, they have to learn something.

Well, we went. It was full of awesome graphics, high speed chases of a different kind (think Sonic the Hedgehog barrelling through tubes), and tons and tons of fart jokes. The kids had a blast.

It was about capitalism and genocide, but the kids didn't get that. To them it was just a silly fun movie with good guys and bad guys.

It was good. For a fart joke movie.

Wanna bet, that's the reason it's in there
to program the next little crop of good Liberal
mind numbed robots.

New generation of slaves for the State!

Did I mention my distaste for Liberalism?

As for the other thing,

genocide is good for ya!

After all don’t genocide and capitalism go together
like bread and butter
peanut butter and jam
just a spoon full of sugar lets the medicine go down
the medicine go down
in the most delightful way.

Blithering nonsense is only funny to post in some threads.

Not in every single one that tickles your fancy.

But it doesn’t take much to tickle my fancy.
If blithering nonsense wasn’t allowed here
there might be two or three posts per month.
So why is it that from your posts I thought you were a guy?

Capialism & genocide. There's a connection? Seems that genocide tends to run rampant in dictatorial states & capitalistic states stop the dictators, no matter what the appeasers want.

Capitalism is self leveling. Socialism brings everybody down.

Pretty much wraps it up. I saw it on an Imax screen though, and that added something. I forgot how freakin' HUGE those things are.

You remind me of my drunk uncle.
