Well, somebody fucked up

HOLLYWOOD (AFP) - Famed US documentary maker Michael Moore (news) used his win of an Oscar to launch a violent attack on US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) and war in Iraq (news - web sites) amid loud boos from the audience.

"We live in fictitious times," he said when picking up the award for best documentary for his anti-gun film "Bowling for Columbine."

"We live in a time with fictitious election results that elect fictitious presidents. We live in a time when we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons.

"We are against this war Mr Bush. Shame on you. Shame on you!," he said to loud boos from an of 3,500 including most of Hollywood's top stars.

Plenty will watch it, I think. However, I always wonder what makes celebrities think they should use any public forum available to espouse their personal opinions (frequently in a loud and obnoxious manner). I would also point out that while most of the news reports mention the booing, I watched the program and there was some cheering as well.

There is a difference between saying, I'm against this war & making a career out of it.

The Dixie Chicks have had their deal blown way out of proportion.

Sheen, Crow & friends have made it clear they have an agenda.

I heard it on the radio this morning, and at the end as the music came on, he said something like, "When you have the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, you're in trouble!"

Anyway, I didn't know who this guy was before today and looking at his profile on IMDB.com, I still don't know.

Michael Moore is a voice of the people and while I dislike any political rhetoric from the oscars, I admire him and his accomplishments.
