Um yes.... for food....? for labor? Lots of stuff.

Before currency there was a barter system. I have chickens who lay eggs, you have plenty of wheat, and LL has a cow that gives milk. I want bread, so I trade you some eggs for some wheat to grind into flour, and to LL for some milk. Now I have the makings for bread. All the labor is done by me, so there is no middle-man to gouge into your net gain.
