server monitoring needed....suggestions?

I need a program that can monitor the following services for downtime. Notifications through email and pager is a must.

DNS, http, ftp, ssh, smtp, pop3, and my/sql. System/cpu load and disk space (free) would be nice as well.

I tried Netsaint/Nagios, and while it looked cool, it would crash my monitoring server after a few readings. Big Brother is pay to play (for commercial use...I'm looking for free stuff).

Anyone got any suggestions/experiences?

I don't know of any that are free, sorry.

We use Servers Alive which is a pretty good no-nonsense monitor.

Well I got Nagios working more-or-less......not sure what was causing it to lock up, but its working now.
