So they robbed our bank ...

On Friday the police showed up at my Wal-Mart Supercenter and taped off everything around the bank located in the store. The guy who works there said that a chubby guy robbed the place.

It turns out that he was in on it and was stupid enough to keep the money, weapon, and apparel at his house.

Ah, but if only all of them were this stupid; but what can you expect from a guy whose parents named him for a lizard.

LONGMONT — The Academy Bank employee who claimed he’d been robbed at knifepoint and duct-taped on Friday has been arrested on suspicion of conspiring with the man who’s alleged to have committed that robbery, police said.

Police and the FBI have arrested two men — bank employee Lizardo “Alan” Monje and alleged co-conspirator Frank David Gutierrez, both of whom are 22-year-old Greeley residents — in connection with the Friday morning robbery of the Academy Bank inside the Longmont Walmart store at 2514 Main St, according to Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur.

Monje had claimed that an Asian or Hispanic male with a chubby face — wearing a dark-colored hooded Army jacket with a fur collar — robbed Monje at knifepoint, bound him with duct tape and left him in the bank office before fleeing with the stolen money.

Satur reported early this morning that based on the arrests and the Longmont police’s and FBI’s investigation, members of the Greeley Police Department, Longmont police and the FBI served a search warrant on Monje’s Greeley residence at about 12:30 a.m. today.

“The money and other evidence related to the crime were recovered from the home,” Satur said.

Both Monje and Gutierrez were arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit theft over $20,000, Satur said.

Bank employee Monje also faces a possible false-reporting charge in connection with the incident.

Satur said authorities are still seeking additional information or possible witnesses to the crime. Anyone with such information is asked to call the Longmont Police Department at 303-651-8501 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8447.

sociological studies of deviance consistently indicate that folks underestimate the risk and overestimate rewards for stuff like this. no wonder that tv producers don't have to look very hard for "america's dumbest criminals."

that, and what do you expect? they're from greeley.

They are charging these two with robbery although robbery requires the use of force or threat of force. Since there was no force applied, and the threat was empty since the "victim" was in on it, this was actually an embezzlement scheme by fraud and deceit.

BOULDER — Two men suspected of conspiring to rob the Academy Bank in a Longmont Walmart were formally charged in Boulder County Court on Thursday.

Frank Gutierrez and Lizardo “Alan” Monje, both of Greeley, were charged with theft, conspiracy to commit theft and third-degree burglary. Monje, who was the assistant manager at the bank, also was charged with false reporting to the authorities.

Monje was found locked in the vault and bound in duct tape last Friday. He claimed to have been a victim of the robber, but police said they found his statements inconsistent with those of the worker who found him. Police followed him to his home in Greeley, where Monje met Gutierrez in a nearby alley. Officers arrested the two shortly after.

Police said that while in the back of the patrol car, the two talked about the robbery, where the money was hidden and what they would tell police. Police recorded the conversation.
