What a pair. The only two in the entire world. Amazing ain't it? Two so dissimilar nations being on the same side of an issue, against the rest. I actually doubt we're "on the same side" but we share a commonality.

Neither of us have signed Article 37 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Wow, what a load of crap this is. Did you know, for instance, that Professur is breaking the law? He is. So is Bish & Leslie & all the other non-American, non-Somali OTCers with children. What brings this up? The same ruling that seemed innocuous at first...the Under 18 can't be killed ruling.
The majority begins its ruling by noting that "Article 37 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, entered into force Sept. 2, 1990, which every country in the world has ratified save for the United States and Somalia, contains an express prohibition on capital punishment for crimes committed by juveniles under 18."

How are they breaking the law? Let's take a look at what your governments agreed to.

Article 12
1. States Parties shall assure to the child who is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child, the views of the child being given due weight in accordance with the age and maturity of the child.

Article 13
1. The child shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of the child's choice.

Remember that Tupac CD that you put back? Maybe you have the audacity to censor your childs fetish for illicit porn. Shame on you.

Article 14
1. States Parties shall respect the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

Article 15
1. States Parties recognize the rights of the child to freedom of association and to freedom of peaceful assembly.

You will not pick your childs friends or limit their curfew.

A Preamble and 54 Articles

God Bless the United Nations.

Oh Hell No!

Now that we've outlawed killing killers that happen to be young.
We can sign up for this bullshit?
Oh happy day!

Reservations:

"(i) Article 21

With a view to ensuring full respect for the purposes and intent of article 20 (3) and article 30 of the Convention, the Government of Canada reserves the right not to apply the provisions of article 21 to the extent that they may be inconsistent with customary forms of care among aboriginal peoples in Canada.

Statement of understanding:

"Article 30: It is the understanding of the Government of Canada that, in matters relating to aboriginal peoples of Canada, the fulfilment of its responsibilities under article 4 of the Convention must take into account the provisions of article 30. In particular, in assessing what measures are appropriate to implement the rights recognized in the Convention for aboriginal children, due regard must be paid to not denying their right, in community with other members of their group, to enjoy their own culture, to profess and practice their own religion and to use their own language."

Don't laugh Luis. Mexico is on the signed list.

People is still tortured by police, you think a whinning child would ever get pass the parents' smacks and punishments?

My child has the inalienable right to see my hand at high rates of speed. She has the right to express herself afterwards too. And she has the right to do what she's told, and avoid the whole affair.

I do not have the right to bring up a spoiled brat, or criminal.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Police arrested an 8-year-old boy who allegedly had a violent outburst in school, head-butting his teacher and kicking an assistant principal, when he was told he couldn't go outside to play with other students.

The 4-foot pupil was led away from Rawls Byrd Elementary School in handcuffs Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery.

"It's not something that happens every day," Maj. Stan Stout said of what could be the department's youngest arrest ever.

Stout said the chair-tossing, desk-turning outburst occurred after a teacher, and later the assistant principal, attempted to stop the boy from joining his classmates.

The child was later released to his parents.

Well, he definitely made his opinions known.

Another example of overkill.

Instead of calling the free press & the police, why couldn't the teacher just smack the living shit out of this kid, call th eparents who would have come to the school, kick the kids ass all the way to the car & then beat him to a bloody mess at home?

Oh yea...shitty parents & lawyers go together.
