Super-slim or super-functional?

Digital camera upgrade.. going to be one of the two below - both are linked to the review.

Both have everything I determined to be a must; only thing left to do is decide which of the extra features are going to be more useful.

First one is super-tiny - a real shirt-pocket camera (85.5 x 67 x 20 mm
). Plus it has a web-cam function that I've always been rather partial to. Disadvantage is that it's a proprietary battery so I'd have to buy a spare and find someone to flog off my NiMHs and charger to.. Secure Disk media so at least it's new, dunno yet whether it's gonna be at all useful though.

Second one is bigger, but still on the small side. BIG advantage with this one is that it has all the manual controls that I'm used to on my SLR.. plus better sensitivity and bulb settings for night shots.. The second big advantage is that it can do movies at 640x480.. up to 30s with sound. Downside here is that she's gonna be quite a bit heavier, especially with 4 AAs inside her.. still lighter than the one I'm replacing though (Sony P50). Compact Flash card so cheap but perhaps unlikely to find a use for it other than for the camera.

Anyway here they both are..

If I could afford it I'd go for the powershot... have you checked out the reviews on this site?

Yeah, I've had a side-by-side of those two plus the two new cybershots open for the last 48 hours but he doesn't have either of these two yet as a full review.. :(

Went down to the electronics store today to check them both out, the Powershot is in fact substantially deeper than the Minolta, which repectively really is damn tiny.. it wouldn't even cover the palm of my hand..
Been looking at the 5mp Cybershot P92 the last few hours too..

I really like canon, but fuji was alittle more affordable for me.
I don't really need more than 2megapixel anyway.

I have the 2 MP fujifilm A204. It's a great little camera and the macro mode is very impressive. I would have liked a camera I could set to manual focus and changed the ISO on, but for all that the quality of the pictures is very impressive. Having read the manual, I haven't yet taken a bad photo.

I'm afraid I know nothing about digital cameras, I'm still using my 10 year old Minolta Maxxum 7000.

But the Canon Powershot looks 'meatier' to me. Eh, why forsake features for weight? I just wish I had the dough to buy either of them. :)

I have the Canaon Power shot 40 (highest powershot when i got it) and i wouldn't trad eit fo ranything

it is GREAT and it isn't really THAT heavy

The photographer in me really wants to get the Powershot, it has almost the functionality of my Minolta SLR...
BUT the opportunist in me wants the Minolta, you can literally take it with you ANYWHERE and it's no more than having a pack of cigarettes in your pocket. Actually that's not even fair..

In terms of what would be most useful.. can you imagine the advantages of ALWAYS having your camera with you and ready to go? I know I'd be leaving the Powershot at home a lot of the time..
Last problem is though, the Minolta is quite a bit more expensive and I'd have to get new batteries and memory for it as well.. :(

My Canon PowerShot S30 (purchased 4/16/02) has started washing out the pictures it takes in white if there's any light at all, and the colors that are left are funkdafied as well. The odd part is that the lighting and colors are fine when it records a movie. If I had any cash at all I'd take it in to have it looked at.

I'm wondering if I should dig up the S30 and have it looked at still, now that I'm in a better financial situation. The Kodak EasyShare CX6330 (another 3.2 megapixel) I replaced it with at the start of the year works alright, but the Canon's pictures were a lot better quality.

I just bought the Canon powershot A70 a couple of months ago. It replaced my Kodak. I absolutely love it. It has both the automatic features you want for quick shots, as well as having all the manual features you need for special shots. Not at all heavy, and the battery life is so much better than the kodaks. I can go a whole day of shooting almost without having to change batteries. The kodak would have had to be changed at least 3 times, which was a pain in the butt.

The Kodak EasyShare software pisses me off so bad, that I won't even consider Kodak now.
That's a big part of why I bought a SD card reader. However, Windows XP Pro recognizes the camera without the Kodak software and I was able to get pics off of it even before getting the card reader.

I just got a 256mb compact flash card for my cam. 497 pics available. I think I'm going to have to go into porn production to even come close to filling it...

I got one of those real cheap cameras though , some time back, that has it all built-in. :lol2:

Then I got my fuji. The problem with it is it uses the "smart card" type,
which only goes as high as 128mbs. I'm getting one today to upgrade from
my whopping 16mb card though, so I can take some movies with it this year.
I think Office Depot has what I want for around $40. :nerd:
