The Control room

Anyone seen The Control Room?

Just curious. Finally watched it last week and i was pleasantly surprised. It actually conveys the popular Arab view in a way that most Americans can understand. Something that doesn't survive the filters of American/European journalism.. Sadly i think this one will slip past mainstream America.

Strange...the site lists this link as www . controlroommovie . com...meaning that this is, most likely, a movie, and not a real news program...;)

Yup! its a movie... bit its going against the "We're right cos we's be American" grain. Showing another biased opinion other than that of the biased US media spin doctoring.

It looks like a (I believe) PBS special on Al JAzeera I saw some months back. Putrid.

Oh come on. You're going to judge it before you even know for sure that's the one you saw?

It might have been on pbs though. It's definetely pbs type material.

I watched the trailer. It's another look at what inovative geniuses the AlJazeera produces are and how America symbolizes oppression around trhe world...which is 180 degrees off the mark. That could be an unjust synopsis but after 2+ years of nothing but, I'll have to be convinced otherwise.

You watched the trailer? The trailer does not translate why this film is important and furthermore classifying a particular viewpoint as wrong and therefor unimportant is a mistake. It is also benificial to understand people in the wrong if you plan on taking any action beyond beating them into complete submission. You don't have to agree with something to find it useful or informative. As i stated i feel this documantary is important because it conveys a popular Arab perspective, not because i agree with the perspective itself. Something that i believe most Americans & Europeans still do not grasp.

So...Since I was over there, and found most Arabs to be nice people, what has that got to do with this propoganda film?

What? How is it propoganda?

1. Because Al Jazeera is owned, and operated, by the government of Qatar. They have no independence to speak of, so anything based on the reporting of Al Jazeera is going to be biased towards the country of Qatar.

2. Because Al Jazeera has a rather bad habit of showing the worst of the actions going on there in the ME. I'm not saying that a rosy picture should be painted, but they seem to have a vested interest in keeping terrorism going in the area to pump up their ratings.

It doesn't sound at all like you've seen this Solo. This film is not based on Al-Jazeeras journalism. Rather it follows people inside Al-Jazeera and shares their perspectives. I think both you and Gonzo should watch it before attempting to comment further.

My apologies. I'd forgotten you said you HAVE seen it.

When/where? I can't find a source to view it.

It's a new rental at blockbuster so probably everywhere else as well. I can promise you atleast one thing Gonzo, it will give you atleast some satisfaction. If nothing else then seeing the Al-Jazeera folks saying "what happened to the Iraqi army!? They couldn't have just disappeared into thin air!" :D
