The cost of equipment for the disabled...

I'm totally shocked at the excessive amounts of money manufacturers charge simply because an item is for the sick or disabled.

I needed a perching stool and couple of other things but I'm damned if I'm paying those prices for something so ugly!

In the end I found a very nice workbench stool at a knockdown price that's just the right height for me for £19.98 including shipping. So now I can sit comfortably in the kitchen and washup, cook, etc.

Took me five minutes to put it together with a power driver. Worth every bit of the £40 odd pounds I saved. :)

Now I'm just waiting for my Table Valet and my walker trolley(saved another £40 on that too).

Limitted market, and majority paid by insurance. Car fenders are the same. Buying a new front clip for a car cost half the price of the entire car.

My solution probably wouldn't work for most people, it's just that I'm the right height. It's also very comfortable with that thick padded seat and rounded edges.

Most of those specialist stools have weight capacities on them and the cheaper they are the lower the weight. I would have to buy one of the £114 ones if I was taking note of that. As it is this one has a 300kgs capacity, so there's no chance of it collapsing under me. lol ;)

I had to read that twice.

yeah, it's the same here. You have to hit just in the right bracket of income
to get a co-pay, and they usually set you up to be just outside the bracket,
but it's like most gov. stuff here....
If you know somebody that knows all the hidden loophole that the SS won't tell you about,
you can get almost anything paid for mostly.
And because of the loopholes, and the people that know about them, the companies drive the prices up....
Typical Gov. BS.

That's what a quick read from 5ft from the screen'll get ya.

I suppose I could get the equipment I needed if I had a full OT assessment from our SS, but I'm not prepared to wait forever for someone to get off their ass and do it.

Fortunately my bathroom is full of grab rails and I already have a shower installed so I just bought a bath seat so I can sit down when I use it since I've had all this trouble with my leg. I haven't had a bath since about '99 as I can't get out of it without great difficulty 'cos of my hip. Plus the loo is higher than the modern low level suites they now sell, so I don't have a problem there. LOL

The trolley will solve the problem of carry things around the house like the laundry or a dinner tray. I'll also be able to use it for getting my shopping from the car and probably be able to carry a midi tower on it. Difficult to do when u need to use a stick with one hand.

Basically I've assessed myself and solved the problems. I don't need some idiot coming round to tell me what I already know and I don't like having my nose rubbed in it. They see me as disabled, I just see a problem to be solved.

Bad attitude? You bet! I'm not prepared to be treated like a second-class citizen and I don't like charity.
