The crowd say Bo Selecta

My boss was playing some music that sounded cool so he gave me a CD with the songs on it... The name of the CD was the "UK Garage" and I looked through the list and saw this:

"The Artful Dodger (Mixed By) - The Artfull Dodger - Re-Rewind The Crowd Say Bo Selecta.mp3"

And I started laughing and my boss said, what? And I said, "Bo Selecta!!" and he just looked at me funny.

Is that where you guys got that from??

the guy on that is craig david, he big famous uk garage man.

bo selecta is now a firm part of brit talk now. no more hello or good morning its now all bo! and word!

You know, when I heard it, I thought that might have been him!! I know Craig David, "Fill me in" was released here that was really popular. I guess he's more popular there than here though... so far at least. I always found that interesting-how someone can be a superstar in one part of the world and not that popular in another.

just to ensure full cultural communication the meaning of bo! selecta is explained thus:

bo! meaning good or excellent, congratulatory statement

selecta! meaning dj or turn-table meister or other club-based music provider

so bo! selecta is a crowd thanking and being congratulatory to the dj for his excellent choice.

'good track sir, well done'

Case in point: Gary Glitter. He had one hit in the US: Rock and Roll Part 2, which became the de facto standard for sporting events (until "Who Let the Dogs Out!" came out). He had a lot more hits in the UK though... until he got busted for kiddie porn a few years back.

okay, so that's Bo Selecta *lightbulb*

I local boy, Glenn Medeiros, is supposedly a big hit internationally, he was a one-hit wonder in Hawaii :D You would think he would've been bigger here 'cause people know him

I see a hell of a lot of Artful Dodger (??), some MJ Cole... There's this song: UK GARAGE So Solid Crew 2Jedi feat MC Midas- 2Dark (Remix).mp3... A lot of the songs are remixes of well known artists... Mace, Janet Jackson, Busta Rhymes, even James Brown. I haven't gotten through all of it yet but some of it sounds gooood. :)

hmm...

dunno if i'd say "a firm part"... an occasional part for some people perhaps....

our nick seems to use it a fair amount, but i dunno...

i'd imagine that a good tradional "awright mate" is more popular... unless you happen to be el gingero in which case it's more like "hey-oop you soft southern shandy swilling la la"...
