The NY Times?

I just heard that they are now endorsing John Kerry.

Now this is just not right.
Everybody has known for a while now that they were biased that way,
but now blatantly admit it...?

They've just lost ALL credibility as far as I'm concerned.

(breaking story. Still waiting for a link)...

Truthfully, this doesn't really concern me. Newspapers have been endorsing candidates for eons. This may show editorial bias but it's open bias. Compare it to a story that is supposed to be balanced.

The Washington Post & LA Times will follow suit.

Did they endorse him in a hard news story on the front page? That's when there would be trouble.

Newspapers endorsing a candidate on the opinion page are a part of the industry. That's part of the reason there is an editorial board in the first place. I have no problem with that. I don't agree with their choice, but if it's on the opinion page, it's fine because it's the opinion of the newspaper's editorial board.

Their credibility has been sliding for years, cat. The whole plagiarism business did it for me. AFAIK, Inky's right. I've never seen a newspaper that didn't endorse a candidate.

Yep, I certainly did not know it was such a common practice.

I guess I'll start taking all newspaper story not too serious anymore. :(

Man I remember when (at least I thought) all the "real" news organizations,
only "reported" the facts. Biased, or unbiased, it seemed you could atleast
believe it.

The thing is, the editors on the editorial board are separate from the city editor, the sports editor, etc., especially at newspapers with as large of a circulation figure as the NY Times. The opinion side and the news side of the paper are not supposed to cross. The "news" side reports the facts, and the "opinion" side interprets them.

/me fondly recalls appearances of this. Not often the case but they tried to look good.
