The Occupation: success or failure?

Here is a blog by one of the only remaining journalists in Iraq. He reports what he sees, and from what I can tell, does so without bias. Only for the state of the Iraqis at this time. Please read a few entries:

I saw him speak in New York in March, before he left for his second time there. He spoke in great detail of corporations buying tasks to clean up Iraq that never get done, unlawful searches, and citizens being taken into custody for little to no justification.

I am not one to say it's a modern day Vietnam because it's not, though some paralells can be drawn.

Do you really believe that's possible for anyone? Understand that I personally believe the Iraq war to be America's first great blunder of the new century, But everyones personal beliefs will color their commentary, no matter how hard they try to be unbiased, IMO. Of course, many don't even try... ;)

I've got to agree with you on this one chcr. ;)
whether it was a blunder or not remains to be seen though IMO.

Greatest spectacle since the fall of Berlin with many of the same results. (peace, prosperity, liber....sorry Les)

Some of us need to be biased just so some of you participate past "I agree" ;)

I wonder where exactly is the proof of peace and prosperity in Iraq?

Not to say that can't happen in the future but I don't see it happening yet.

As pointed out in hundreds of previous threads (well, probably tens)...it took the USA 7-10 years to settle Japan & Germany. They are now more prosperous than their wildest dreams, previous to the war.

It's a long & hard road. It has some really ugly bumps. There will be a few accidents along the way. If we, the west, were to unite & help them instead of bickering amongst ourselves, we'd not only make this trip seem less dreary but we'd also stop invigorating teh groups that wish us harm.

good things come to those that wait. right now we are only seeing a biased news system. when all the dust settles we all might be surprised.

Gee. Where can I start?

1. In the US, our newsmedia always have murderers, rapists, armed robbers, etc, on the front page, and any good news, like the drop in violent crime, are regarded to a by-line...does that mean that everybody in the US is a criminal? According to your sentiment, we are. All the schools that have been rebuilt, all of the hospitals that have been resupplied, all of the infrastructure that has been refurbished just doesn't count because a few insurgents blow up an oil pipeline, right, chcr? Nothing positive is going on in Iraq, because chcr doesn't see it, read it, or hear it, folks. Time for all of us over here in the sand-box to pack up and go home. There is no hope, and there is no good news. Besides...we should all be in jail, right? ;) There's a big difference between what you see, and what is actually being accomplished. Look past page one, and see more than crime and negativity.
