What is The ONE Campaign?
ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans – ONE by ONE – to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. The ONE Campaign is engaging Americans through a diverse coalition of faith-based and anti-poverty organizers to show the steps people can take, ONE by ONE, to fight global AIDS and poverty. http://www.one.org/index.aspx

So what are your thoughts? For or against? Would you sign or not?
I like the idea but not sure about the rest.

I thought you mean http://oneearth.org/ I just loved their 1993 campaing called the power of one. They put their commercials on discovery channel over here. I like them.

IMO, we need to concentrate on the US's problems.
History shows that you can only help the people in Africa so much,
and then you are spinning your wheels, and throwing money down a hole.

Unless we just go in there and take control over the whole country, things
over there won't ever be at an acceptable level.
If we try to take over, it'd be a blood bath on both sides.

I believe that it's possible to cure world hunger, but as long as there's not a profit in it it will never happen. I agree with Gonz re AIDS, the ways to prevent it are well known. The problem is that there are a fair percentage of people that don't care plus you have the church in Rome (a lot of the affected people are Roman Catholic) telling them that the most easily used and commonly available preventative measure will send you straight to hell and there you go. Not gonna happen under the current circumstances.

Ummm...Africa, like Europe, is more than one country, Cat. When the Europeans first got there, and started screwing up the area, they thought the same way. Especially the British, Lopan. When they found out differently, they played one country (tribe) against the other in order to remain in power. Of course, we all know what happened since the early 1940's, when the Europeans were slowly moving out of the continent and back to their 'homelands'.

Seriously, and I know you don't agree with this but the sentiment stands, I find it hilarious that such a large percentage of creationists seriously believe that blacks are less evolved than whites. Think about it.

Of course, that's not to say that some who accept evolution don't feel the same way.

well yeah, I shouldn't have generalized like that I guess.
I was referring to the southern half, and around up to Somalia.
Egypt, Morocco, and the more developed areas, there is hope for.
There are places there though that time has proven, cannot be helped.

I don't think it's an evolution/creation thing, they just don't want to change.
At least the warlords don't want it to.

I find it particularly funny that, since their entire religious writings were basically stolen from African and Middle-Eastern people, that they would claim this.

The sentiment you stated is correct, but it is also just as accepted by the evolutionists as it is by the creationists. BTDT with people on both sides of the spectrum...although evolutionists are usually harder to convince because of their view on technological advancement.

Ahh, but the evolutionists who understand evolution the way it actually happened should understand that the first humans arose in Africa. Therefore, blacks in general would be more evolved (if there were such a thing), not less. They should know better. No accounting for stupidity, huh?
