The race is on

Critics of proposed laws that would require people to produce photo IDs before voting call the measures racist and akin to pre-Civil War laws that prevented black Americans from voting, reports the Associated Press.

The measures, currently being considered in Indiana, Georgia and Wisconsin, are intended to cut down on fraud and boost voter confidence.

But, especially in Georgia, black lawmakers are irate, calling the proposals “an updated form of Jim Crow.”

Of course. Making someone show valid identification is racially motivated. Who would ever think otherwise? Especially after so many elections have been contested for unregistered voters. I mean, the only explanation for it is racism, right?

Right?

*sigh*

The San Jose Mercury News says recent allegations about steroid abuse, adultery and tax evasion against baseball player Barry Bonds are ultimately racist in origin.

Race-baiters say the fact that Bonds was closing in on Babe Ruth’s home run record was just too threatening for the white establishment to take so it is now grinding him down.

"If you have a black man who's conscious and independent and on the verge of breaking Babe Ruth's record...that's frightening," Leonard Moore, a Louisiana State University professor, told the paper. "If you speak out, if you don't play to what white America wants, there will be persecution, scrutiny and unfair reporting."

**end**

NEWSFLASH: A black man already broke Babe Ruth's record. The earth continues to spin on its axis. Barry Bonds is being singled out because anyone with two functional eyes can see he's juiced on steroids. Because he is a complete asshole in public and with the media. Because he whines incessantly about being, well, singled out and picked on because he's black. I think those three words should be banned from the language when strung together...because (s)he's black. Black people sometimes act certain ways because they're black and know that no one will complain...because they're black. It goes both ways. I don't hear anybody making excuses for me...because I'm white. In fact, the only thing I get "because I'm white" is accused of shit that never even entered my mind.

It just never ends.

Ironically, the local voter folks, have been asking to see ID since I moved here. This law wil only require it be carried to the polls, always. If it's forgotten, a provisional ballot may be filled out & an ID'd trip to the voter office in the next 10 days or so legitimizes the ballot. The poor who can't afford a $10. state ID or a drivers license once every 4 years are driving Esplanades & buying plasma TVs, using their food stamp cards at the same time.

yeah, I though it was already a law.
I had to show mine in the last 3 elections

I'm waiting on um to say they have to do DNA testing next. :D

I seem to remember showing mine, too... and this is California, the same place that has the "give illegal immigrants driver's licenses" movement.

A black man already broke Babe Ruth's record.

Kind of surprising they didn't notice. It was in all the papers after all.

BTW, I thought the ID thing was already a law too. Not in Joe-juh I guess.

Over here you're required to present your elector ID in order to vote. The ID has your fingerprint, signature and photo. If you don't present it you won't be able to vote, it doesn't matter if you show the driver's licence, your birth certificate or any other thing, they just won't let you.

I think it is normal, understable and far from racist.

Yea, well, we'll see. Let me find a Guatemalan or Ecuadoran. They'll set you straight on the whole racist Mexican issue.

Why don't you, 'cause I'm lost.
Only mexican citizens can vote, Guatemalan and Ecuatorian are not mexicans, therefore, they can not vote here.

Mexicans can't vote here. They sometimes do & they are encouraged to do so by Presidente Fox.

But not for US elections, Fox wants them to have the hability to vote there for mexican elections, it should be as simple as going to the embasy or consulate, show their ID and cast the vote.

If you're talking about mexicans who also happen to have the US citizenship, then it is their right to vote, is it not? ;)

If the voting process is so poorly organized than even an illegal can vote, well, the real problem is in the voting process itself and....shame on you.

Once a Mexican crosses the border, they never go back. They send 25% then 15% then 10% then 5 % then 0% of their paychecks back to their wife & kids. Eventually though, the kids are forced to illegally enter the US so they can vote & get themselves on welfare & then raises in welfare, all the while claiming that daddy abandoned them so they can get better welfare to send to mom who is now with another man in San Diego.

I didn't write the rules, it's just how it is

I know that happens, but being over there doesn't make them citizens automatically. How do they manage to vote?? :confuse3:

I have lived in Arizona nearly all my life (45 years).
I have voted in every election since I was 18.
I have NEVER been asked for ID.

How you ask Louie?

Hey buddie, this is America!

They won't give you the papers where you cast your votes unless your elector ID has been verified. To avoid falsifications, they have copies of the IDs stored in computers, so checking it is easy and fast. After you cast your vote, your ID is marked and so is your thumb, to avoid voting twice.

Yeah, right.

Maybe you just look more honest than he does?

Thats quite possible, if it were only me. My wife & the in-laws also get asked, sometimes. I think it's just precinct policy.

Nah Louie if that were so why do all these
illegals with Aunt Mabel's social security number keep on voting?
That womyns' been dead ten years and still holds 15 jobs.

Hell ya Gonz looks like a ‘trucker’ I’d ID him too!

I doubt it...I have shaggy hair, usually unshaven, and I make a habit of staying up until the polls open at 6am.
