1st post OT ;)

Whatever happened to the "revolutionary" Mazda rotary engine?

They had a lot of problems getting it to pass smog, and with the slow pace of sales for the RX7 it wasn't worth it to plunk in the money to get it to pass smog, so they discontinued the RX7 instead. I'm not sure what changed between then and now to allow them to reintroduce that engine.

Actually the RX7 was phased out because the luxury car market plummeted and Mazda was left with a "too much " car.

*confused*

The last time I really paid attention, the RX7 was a sports car & Mazda didn't make squat in the luxury line. (I buy used American)

It was a luxurious sports car. The same thing happened to the Nissan 300ZX and the Toyota Supra.

The emissions headache with the rotary engine didn't help the RX7 much, though.
