Time to sell those gas-hogs...

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 — What price war with Iraq? If the war goes well, gasoline prices might settle as low as $1.10 a gallon on average, by some estimates. If the oil fields burn, look for prices as high as $4.84, others say. Also possible: The market will simply adjust and prices will stay at today’s $1.40-$1.60 range.

How much you want to bet that prices soar?

I wonder how well those Honda Insights hold up. That gas electric hybrid that gets 49 mpg. That would cut my fuel bills by 70% ... probably saving me a good 500$/yr... and I live in a cheap gas area. Just imagine if I were in a gas price rape area like Tokyo or the UK ... that would add up to 2000$. I hear the targeted tax credits are also damn nice.

I saw a thing for Honda SULEVs (Super Ultra Low Emmission Vehicles) in TIME but I guess that isn't the same thing. (I had to rerad it for some school project - OTC is mroe entertaining)

Have those peole ever heard of a bike?

Bikes have limited practicality. ever tried to haul 80$ worth of groceries in the rain on a bike.. its the last time you will ever do it.

Or how about moving closer to the grocery store? No need to live in the extreme burbs...;) You can also try using public transportation. Not as convenient (hell, it's almost useless here in the US outside of the metro area), but better than $4.00 per gallon. ;)

Atlanta is a very hilly town... sorta like Frisco. Pedal power would be murder. I would try to live partly on a bike if I were down in Q's world... thats all glass flat and laid out more grid-like.

I could buy a place closer to the grocery store.. but be more subject to air pollution and crime...and it still doesn't put me anywhere near the rest of lifes conveniences. I just have to face it that Atlanta is a commuter town. At least Chicago and NYC have awesome public transport to take you all over hell and back.

if you thought getting the groceries home in the rain sucked...try tooling around with a wet saw, some buckets, a buncha masonry products and a tool box on a bicycle.:eek6:...and I don't think they'd even let me on the SCAT bus with all that crap.

Work is a different issue altogether to be sure. When you need a car.. you need a car. Biking to work is only feasible to those who only have to show up empty handed.

Whoever said you need to bike on the road?
Am I the only one here who's taken their bike on the subway?
New Jersey is pretty flat too :)

The bike is for people who drive their car 1 block to get to someones house (My mom has done that, and I usually walk home)

I'm not saying bikes can replace cars, i'm saying there are many times where you could use a bike instead of a car (I'm 13, no driver's lisence, ride my bike A LOT)

I don't have to drive much.
I guess I'll keep my full sized conversion van.;)
I've only had it a couple of months.

I'm paying 1.39gal now for mid grade.

Those damn petrol, price gouging, ripoff, sapsuckers.

Um, been there, done that. Sort of. When I was younger, I had an 80cc honda scooter. I had 2 bags on the sled, and my passenger had a bag in each arm. I'd also carried a 24 of beer, and a 7 gallon blue water container. Damn versatile bike that. And since it looked exactly like a 50cc, the cops never looked twice at the speed I was doing.

No clue. But I could get two hundred and sixty pounds up to 60mph. Solo, it still topped out at 60, but it got there quicker.

I know US mopeds are pretty much made fast and loose (aka low compression and quality) and are limited to 2 HP. I guess a well built 80cc machine should be able to rate at least 10.

I got it used, so it may have been tampered with.;) I've never seen another under 100cc match it. I was tempted to pick up a Honda Helix 100 I saw recently. Verra Nace

Plus you can always add your fuel costs into your business expenses.

On a personal level, I feel it's about time that gas prices soared. Both my cars are fuel efficient, and, if necessary, I can always hoof-it to work.
