Tony Blair

I saw him last night giving a speech to the House of Commons. Few thoughts about it, Number 1, don't you all have a bigger room somewhere so people don't have to sit on each others laps?

And 2, if his political career goes down the crapper over there because of this, can we have him? He is one of the most eloquent speakers I have seen in a long time. Obviously intelligent, and he looks like he believes what he's saying with his heart. Blair For President!!

he's nowhere near the best speaker in the house, some consider him to be a bit flat with the constant sincerity and stop-start voice. robin cook is alledged to be one of the finest orators in the house of commons today.

At least you have orators of quality. Our people are so lame and lfeless on this side of the pond that the appearance of a marginal talent on your side seems quite grand indeed.

Hey, Billy was pretty good. Its just too bad he was a compulsive liar. Oh wait, isn't that an asset in this line of work. Ok, we had Billy. GW, now thats another matter :D

I never heard Tony speak really until yesterday on my drive home from work. I can tell you, he really changed my opinion of him in just a few short minutes. He is pretty damn good. Remember, we literally don't have any good speakers left. Look at what we had to restort to for president ;) Thats says it all!

That's what I'm saying, most of the politicians I've heard lately just sound like they are repeating a canned speech. Blair sounds like he really means what he's saying. It would be nice to have a leader like that.

I missed it. :( Anyone know somewhere online where I can hear it?

I can't listen to Bush and his constant catch phrases and pauses and uhhhs. I tell Rusty to listen and then just sum up the highlights for me when he's done. It usually isn't much.

The worst speaker I've ever heard was an old Mayor of NYC, Ed Koch. He had a really nasally whiney voice and I'm not exaggerating that he said "uh" in every sentence he uttered. Once you notice, that gets really annoying.

I hate it myself, but apparently the newsmedia just eats that shit up.

RealPlayer doesn't bother me at all anymore. Once you go into the options and turn off all the auto-start crap and make sure it doesn't associate with any other file types then it's fine.

Just another program, but one that takes an annoying few minutes of customizing at first.

He can be a Rep in 7 years or a Senator in 9.

Yeah, but a liberal Brit is not a bad liberal. I know, he can't be President, but I can still dream in my little world, can't I?

in the uk he ain't a liberal, he's labour (read - socialist). the liberal party are also socialist but less/more socialist depending on which bits of labour (old skool harcore red labour or newer skool centre-left slightly less dribbly labour) you support.

there are those at the moment who think he is the best conservative (read - right wing) prime minister we've ever had, which is part of the reason the tories are so crap at the moment.

nice to know a liberal brit ain't a bad bad liberal, if anyhting that's where i'd place myself. i'm not loony-red enough to be old skool labour, and dislike new labour for its presentation-over-content style. the tories are usually unpleasant and not a vision of what i think britain should be.

As for the size of the room, it's a very old room. And seating them close like that give more opportunity to whisper and scheme. Plus, they don't get to take in aids, adjoints, or other perifery peoples.
