Security guard killed
A 52 - year - old Hamakua man was killed Wednesday in a traffic accident at the intersection of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and the Four Seasons Resort, police reported Wednesday.
The man was identified as Andy Pascubillo of Kukuihaele, a security guard.
Responding to a 5:10 a.m. call, Kona police determined that Pascubillo was driving a Kawasaki Mull all - terrain vehicle east, or mauka, across the highway when he was struck by a 1993 Toyota two - door sedan traveling north on the highway.
Pascubillo was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:57 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle, a 21 - year - old Kealakekua man, was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released.
Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a standard negligent homicide investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
This is the 15th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared to 18 at the same time last year.
Mr. Pascubillo is the father of one of my former students... she, my former student, and my family were very close. She lost her baby a year ago this month to SIDS ... and now she's lost her father.
