U.S. Denies Report of Bin Laden's Capture

TEHRAN, Iran - Pentagon and Pakistani officials on Saturday denied an Iranian state radio report that Osama bin Laden was captured in Pakistan's border region with Afghanistan "a long time ago."

The claim came at a time when Pakistan's army was hunting al-Qaida suspects in a remote tribal region along the border with Afghanistan, believed to be a possible hiding place for the al-Qaida leader. The report was carried by Iran radio's external Pashtun service, which is designed for listeners in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the language is widely spoken.

not really. jsut confused. I dont knwo which one is the truth. did they say we caught him so people might relax or support Bush more?

He's been in custody for quite some time & these teasers are how we pre-release information to avoid the shock. Haven';t you noticed there are few truly BREAKING NEWS stories anymore.
 
If he's been caught (and the source is a little questionable) they won't trot him out until they think it will do Bush the most good for the election, freako. If they "find" him four to eight weeks before the election, I would want a very serious investigation run, but if it happens and Bush wins (likely) there will certainly be none. I don't know. :shrug: On the one hand, it's exactly the type of thing I would expect of an imcumbent administration, on the other hand, it might be hard to keep it secret.
 
so your saying hes not been caught or he might have been but this will be used as an election ruse?
 
Why an investigation? He's nobody. One person on a grander scale is useless. Actually catching him will be irrelevent to the war, now, 6 months ago, or 6 months from now.

Summer is still my prediction but with this release, it may be sooner.

All true, Gonz, but you know as well as I that it'll be the top news story for a week and if it happens before the election, Bush and his posse will be shouting from the rooftops "Look! We caught America's most dangerous enemy." All the while ignoring the fact that making a martyr of this jackass will increase the danger to Americans.


Oh, nice of you to finally admit that he is irrelevant to the war. :D

I've argued he didn't matter for quite some time. The group is important, not the individual.

As far as the capture goes, it wouldn't matter the CiC, they'd all use him as a political pawn. I know damned well I would. I disagree with his "martyrdom" though. We don't assasinate ( ;) ) so he, like saddam, will look old & bitter & used up. No longer the warrior king come from the mountains to save everything.
 
well we agree the group is more important than the individual. something scares me about agreeing you you gonz. I will not join hte dark side :p as far as Osama goes do you think Sadam will be the same way? a pawn used to get votes saying we caught him?

is it? I thought Bush could say: under my admin we caught this man as well as the SOB responsible for 9/11(I think he did it and as far as I know he is still the scapegoat)
