KIEV -- Ukraine's parliament followed Russia's lead Thursday, approving a 13 percent flat income tax in a move hailed by the government as a crucial step toward creating a prosperous middle class and reducing the country's shadow economy.

The bill, which will take effect from Jan. 1, was backed by a majority of 352 deputies in the 450-seat chamber.

The 13 percent flat income tax Russia introduced in 2001 is widely credited with helping to boost the country's economy.

Ukraine's parliament, the Rada, changed the income tax regime from the current rates of 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 percent.
Good for them. That is really good for them. Damn I'm jealous.

Add on the fact that medicare in the US is not intergrated with your taxes, and you guys are basically screwed.

"Free" is relative... With this SARS related incident in Toronto, surgery had to be rescheduled. People that had to wait 8 to 12 months now have to wait 12 to 16 months for surgery. The average wait time for a MRI is now more than half a year. Yeah. But it is free. If you live to see it....

No, I mean free as in, for example, you fall down the stairs and get a concussion. You go to the ER. Here in Canada, you dont pay anything, provided you have landed immigrant status. In the US, oyu'd pay at least $250, plus the supplies they used on you.

You go to the ER
... where you wait outside in an ambulance and sometimes die. If you get into the hospital, there is a good chance there isn't a bed for you. If you make it into the hospital and a bed, the average response time is 6 to 8 hours in Toronto before you see a doctor. Lots of time to die.

I've seen better health care in third world countries such as Malaysia and South Africa. In South Africa you are in and out of the ER in under 8 minutes. In Malaysia I don't know the statistics, but it was pretty fast and efficient.

Come to Canada, where we have free healthcare for everyone... Provided you don't decompose first.

Well, what do you propose? We commercialize it like the Liberal government suggests? Make a person pay for the 6 hour wait instead?

Be thankful we have what we have.

No I am not thankful for what we have. I know the liberals wouldn't like a complete privatization, so I'll [damn English, sorry, I have the word in my head but I just can't remember it now].

If you insist on following Hitler's system of healthcare where the government controls it, at least don't make private hospitals illegal as it is in Canada. Allow for private medical insurance companies to start up and allow for people to pick an option whether they want to pay for their own medical insurance or government insurance.

There are plenty of private hospitals, most of which support the MediCare plan. And there are extra insurance options. You may prchace them at any time. It's only about $50 or so a month. Covers Detal, Optometric, Orthodontist, and pretty much all else except plastic surgery.
