Too cute for words
By MATT KELLEY, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - U.S. soldiers in Iraq are killing themselves at a high rate despite the work of special teams sent to help troops deal with combat stress, the Pentagon's top doctor said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, about 2,500 soldiers who have returned from the war on terrorism are having to wait for medical care at bases in the United States, said Dr. William Winkenwerder, assistant secretary of defense for health affairs. The problem of troops on "medical extension" is likely to get worse as the Pentagon rotates hundreds of thousands of troops into and out of Iraq this spring, he said.

And while they were away, Bush was working quickly and quietly to diminish their benefits and entitlements. All while he was cheering us on to support our troops.....:cuss:

you mentioned that before. is there a source on this Suiggs?

dammit why cant they come home? isnt that an option at all? :mad:i wonder if Bush knows about this at all. i doubt he cares if he does

I mentioned before about the endless deployments, and got dissed by Squiggy. Seems like I'm more right than some folks would like to believe.

Another thing...Some retirements and seperations are being held up due to what's called a stop loss.

If they come home, we would need to send others in their place. Like it or not we're in it for the long haul now. To go this far and then just pull out would only serve to make things worse.

And they say we don't need a draft...

Perhaps if they had a competitive wage and benefits package they wouldn't need a draft? I agree that someting needs to be done, but I don't really like the idea of a draft. Don't really have a better answer though.

Nothing better to get the rich and the poor together, and show what life's truly about. ;) Just one thing, though. The only exceptions to a draft are those that make one unfit for military duty at this moment. No buy-outs or leaving the country or joining the Guard or Reserve to avoid your commitment. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Every citizen has a vested interest in the survival of his, or her, country. Especially the rich and powerful. ;)

I can't remember the exact context, but I was ranting about getting extended in Saudi yet again, and said that that was the reason people are leaving the military in droves. You then gave a rant about George W., and blamed the slow disappearance of benefits, and told me, in essence, that I should wake up.

And I made the same reference here. My point wasn't that we didn't need more troops. It was about how totally detached and insensitive Bush was from the problem. And I probably DID say that you should wake up and start questioning the sincerity of your CIC.
