one of the tournament dark horses and seen as one of the better european sides portugal were expected to qualify for the second round as group champions. they're not making life easy for themselves :)

about 10mins gone first half

usa 1-0 portugal

o'brien slams the ball home from close range after confusion in the portugese penalty area on 3mins. they almost take a second goal in similar circumstances on 6mins but mcbride just pushes it wide.
 
first half coming to a close and the usa seemed to have caused a major upset, the score is now 3-0 with goals in the 29th [own goal by jorge costa] and 37th minute [mcbride with close range header after some slack marking].

this will certainly shake up the group and could leave portugal out of the running for the knockout stages

portugal have just given themselves hope with a 40th min goal from defender beto, score now 3-1
