Pakistan leader survives blasts


Cars were destroyed and windows in nearby buildings shattered
Two huge explosions shook the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi on Thursday, minutes after President Pervez Musharraf's motorcade had passed by.
At least seven people were killed and several injured but the president was unhurt, a military spokesman said.

"It was an assassination attempt on the president," the spokesman, Major General Shaukat Sultan, said.

It is the second time in a few days that President Musharraf has narrowly escaped an explosion.


In one of the blasts, a suicide bomber reportedly rammed a pick-up truck into a police vehicle.

The windshield of the president's limousine was slightly damaged, Major General Sultan told BBC World television.

"It was quite a narrow escape," he added.

Last week, General Musharraf was unscathed when a bomb blew up a bridge seconds after his convoy had crossed it in Rawalpindi.

The city lies just outside the national capital, Islamabad.

Have any of you ever been to the Arabian areas? Most of the people their are nice, polite, and friendly...a few rotten apples, however, tend to spoil the whole bunch in the worlds eyes.

Never been to an arabian area, but know several people from Kuwait and Iraq. They are as nice as (if not nicer) than most of the Americans I know. I think it's important to note that most Muslims are not Arabs, nor are all Arabs Muslim. I'm not even certain that all or most of the terrorists are Arab although I've never read any hard figures. Interesting to note that there are more practicing muslms than catholics in France, for instance.

It's sad that a few people who interpret certain religious passages in such a way that it serves their own twisted vision can taint so many others. This is by no means limited to Islam. I promise you that a lot of otherwise average muslims fear christianity just as much as a lot of christians fear them.

One of the many, many reasons I no longer partake of the whole business. :shrug:
 
Its always the miniscule extremist brain washed lunatic fringe who make the most noise. The vast majority is nothing like them. We CONSTANTLY need to remind ourselves of that I think. this ISNT how muslims are. this ISNT how arabs are. i find if you are having problems doing this when horrible things happen then a quick solution is to look at the average white american (canadian, europian, etc) all around you and think Timothy McVeigh...
 
it is true but the media has been portraying it that way unfortunately.hell if someone actually studied the religion it is more peaceful than many religions out there.
