Consider the source.

NYT/CBS News poll said:
Two-thirds say the federal government should guarantee that all Americans have health insurance — and a similar number says providing health insurance for all is a more serious problem than keeping health care costs down.

If that is indicitive of the real America, then, after a nearly 20 year old false start, Hillary is gonna get what she wants & the rest of us are gonna see one of greatest health care systems in the history of mankind decline to a state of chaos & mediocrity.

The people who run your local DMV will bew running your local quack in a box. Pardon me, I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep, over there in the corner.

 Sorry, my wife has been working in it for more than twenty years. It was never really that good. It used to be adequate though, and it could be again. OTOH, if costs weren't out of control, you wouldn't need guaranteed health insurance, would you? The guy that used to be my doctor quit being a doctor altogether (he's a biology professor at Vanderbilt now) because the malpractice insurance became too expensive.

Never that good?

We're having to make up shit because our system has served us so well. Instead of dying of TB, we're addicted to online porn.

Costs, out of control.

Does anyone remember when, in the 80s, the banks were praising the cost savings of their customers using the ATM? It would lead to better face to face service since they wouldn't need to spend so much time depositing checks or dispensing cash.

Around that same time...maybe a little before, HMOs became popular. Same reasoning...cheaper to have a doc in a box, using an assembly line mentality & allowing P.A.s to do the minor crap. It would mean people were able to go to the doc more often, touting preventive medicine instead of treatment.

Today, there are fees form ATMS useage & medical costs are skyrocketing. Anybody else for turning back the clock?

Anybody else for turning back the clock?

No, we turn 'em forward in the spring. Next weekend as a matter of fact.

Edit: and people make up sicknesses (and enemies and other shit to be scared of) because a lot of them want the "end to be neer."

Next weekend as a matter of fact.

Thanks for reminding me...is isn't it this weekend? (first Sunday of April-but that was changed) until the last Sunday in October (also changed)

The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time.

Saving is used here as a verbal adjective (a participle). It modifies time and tells us more about its nature; namely, that it is characterized by the activity of saving daylight. It is a saving daylight kind of time. Similar examples would be a mind expanding book or a man eating tiger. Saving is used in the same way as saving a ball game, rather than as a savings account.

Nevertheless, many people feel the word savings (with an 's') flows more mellifluously off the tongue. Daylight Savings Time is also in common usage, and can be found in dictionaries.

Adding to the confusion is that the phrase Daylight Saving Time is inaccurate, since no daylight is actually saved. Daylight Shifting Time would be better, but it is not as politically desirable.

Oh, goody, more useless trivia

Meh, I convinced myself that all the bullshit about supernovas, neutron stars and black holes was perfectly useful in certain specialized circumstances. I'm good for another few weeks at least.
