FTR, Manson was sentenced to death. California, in its infinite wisdom, did away with the death penalty. When it was reinstated, it was not made retro-active. thus, Charlie gets to be denied parole every 5 years. At least they're smarter than some of their fellow statesmen and keep him locked up.
