i went to girl scout camp once...it was fun...until it rained and all the frogs in the area decided to move into our little tent thing....had a wood floor and ceiling beams but the rest was tent...but even that was a little fun.

there is a club of boy scouts, and they are named that way (no translation).

I think they are part of the same organization as yours.

We had boy scouts and the girls were called brownies. The scouts were mostly for English kids, while the Afrikaans children belonged to the Voortrekkers (which, if literally translated would be frontpullers.....:hmm: ) I think essentially they did the same type of things, but the voortrekkers also included a lot of the Anglo-Boer & Boer-Native war history stuff in their teachings.

I never belonged to either, was too busy with other, more important things.

I was only a few merit badges and the leadership project away from Eagle when I turned 18. Once I turned 18, it was too late.

I had fun with my pinewood derby car. We were allowed to add weight to the cars to bring them up to five ounces. There were no facilities to add weight, though, meaning underweight cars raced as such. My dad had some old bullets sitting around, which I used for weight. I made my car into a little convertible with five little bullets sticking up in the middle, a row of two and a row of three smaller ones. I painted the car white, and put smiling faces on the bullets. It looked pretty nice, except that by the end of the night there was a bunch of graphite lube overspray all over the paint by where the hub nails go into the wood.

Same here.

I learned a lot in Scouting. Teamwork, leadership, goal accomplishment, integrity, friendship, sportsmanship, citizenship, and survival.

You must have been a very very bad boy Oz, come on,do tell the details..... :swing:

Well, I didn't blow anything up or anything (although we did once set fire to 10 acres of woodland......but no one was hurt) :D

I got thrown out for not being able to swim :eh: We were doing canoe training........in the middle of a river......and the instructor asked me to do an eskimo roll (basically, yer deliberately capsize the canoe and then resurface)........not being able to swim, I didn't like the idea of that (I was led to believe that the idea was to stay in the canoe) so I told the instructor where to get off ............... a big arguement ensued, I got dragged back to the riverbank, arguement continued.....I got kicked out of the troop

I was in the cub scouts from when I was 7-11yrs.....then the air scouts (just like normal scouts.....but we got to do hangliding and wotnot) until I was 14 :swing:

I quit because they were losers, all of them. I felt pathetic with that little wimpy 1,5-inch knife. Plus, the camps kinda sucked... Ants, mosquitos, cold, wetness and misery combined into one hellish package.

Edit: No offence to you guys.

I've been involved since I was probably 10. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts (I am an Eagle), Venture Crew, and Explorer (when there were Explorers). My brother and my dad are still very active in it, as am I when not at school/work. :( Wish I had more time for it.

BSA is the american didision of Boy Scouts. Its an international thing. Do a search for World Jamboree to see some pretty cool stuff.

Good organization. I'd highly recommend anyone to join (no matter the gender).

Met some incredibly awesome people through Scouting. Unbelieveable. I've done gear testing for Coleman, taught at a scout camp for three years (my best friend taught there for six or seven years), helped DJ'ed dances and many other things I probably couldn't do without being involved in the Scouts. I could definately say I would be nowhere near where I'm at without my experience in the organization.

Lets just say three summers on your own at a summer camp with the staff is crazy as hell. You've never seen pranks until you become staff.

That's how they are seen around here, if you are over 12 and you are still with the scouts you are a completely loser, wanker, nerd, etc etc.

I've met quite a few people who are the same way, and I've never met one who wasn't completely ignorant to what Scouting really is.

"You mean tying knots and shit?"
