The Stab a Soldier in the Back Act 2007

I'm not using my occupation to declare others as clueless.

my dad was in the Navy, was in the invasion of italy campaign - later got himself a cushty job as assitant harbour supplies master at Aden. Went for swims in the early morning, drank so much cheap spanish rum, it put him off rum for life -

does that make his experiences or thoughts or understanding any the less?

Nope. Doesn't make anyone else's thoughts or understanding any less either.

I hear you - and that includes Gato - but why then the 'shipping cargo' thing?

Irrelevant.

once you say something new, original, or that i was previously unaware of - and given my lack of military experience and knowledge your lack of originality is fairly telling - i'll feel free to take you less seriously in these matters than you think the world should.

And once you accept that I have more knowledge on the subject than you do, then you will never understand. If the topic was something you had expertise in, I'd give you the benefit of the doubt, but since I'm just a 'dumb old airman' I guess I don't get the same benefit. BTW...originality has nothing to do with it...experience does. This isn't a finesse thing. War is a sledgehammer. It doesn't require complex planning. Never has. Most, it not all, new tactics are not complex either. The biggest changes came from armor and weaponry.

And once you accept that I have more knowledge on the subject than you do.

yeah that really says it all.

okay. fine. i accept it.

i must at this point just assume that you're just not very articulate, or that i'm "a bad listener," and that's why i have yet to pick up anything that i, a dumb civilian, have not heard before or quite readily figured out myself.

or, perhaps, things just aren't so complicated so as to require your level of expertise, and maybe, just maybe, you're not the only one in here with a valid opinion.

i'll be sure to let you know when we cross over into any territory where i claim, or rather, let's do better, actually can operationalize, some level of expertise.

Never said you were a dumb civilian, so why must you assume that I'm not articulate. Perhaps its just the listening part. You formed your opinions before I ever typed one word, and anything that goes against your preconceived ideas is automatically suspect.

Never said I was. You, however, seem to assume that you are.

Since you never really delved into what it is you do in detail, why not?

Never said you were a dumb civilian.

literally, you're correct. i don't think you ever referred to me, specifically, as "dumb civilian," exactly. but the attitude toward those of us who aren't "there" that you've displayed consistently through threads on the war says otherwise. and with the disrespect you've shown towards the validity of others' opinions, categorically and ad hominem, you might as well have said it literally to just about everyone here!

Opinions are like assholes -- everybody's got one. Some stink more than others.

This is a discussion board--can we please get back to the discussion instead of arguing over who's opinion has more weight?

Glad to see your global perspective is so narrow. One shows how business is done, with a leftist twist & the other reminds us that history shoudl not repeat itself.

One Billion dollars...Several million dead bodies...you choose.

But history does repeat itself, Gonz. Just as it's doing now and has done over and over again.
Most people can't learn from their own mistakes, let alone someone else's.

Looks to me like we're spending the money and getting the dead bodies. It's a bargain!!!!!
