Anti-gay activist took ten-day holiday with male prostitute

A leading U.S. anti-gay campaigner has been photographed returning from a European holiday with a male prostitute.

Professor George Rekers, a Baptist minister who believes homosexuality is a sin that can be cured, hired a 20-year-old Puerto Rican as his travelling companion from a website called Rentboy.com.

The 61-year-old father-of-three took the escort, who is known on the gay networking site as 'Geo', on a ten-day trip to London and Madrid.

The pair were photographed emerging from Miami International Airport last month with Professor Rekers pushing their luggage in a trolley.

But when confronted with the photo by a journalist from the Miami New Times this week, Professor Rekers explained he hired Geo to help him carry his suitcases following a stint in hospital.

'I had surgery, I can’t lift luggage,' he said. 'That’s why I hired him.'

A statement released on his behalf added: 'Professor Reker's family, local friends, and even another university professor colleague have offered to accompany him on trips to lift luggage.

'He was not involved in any illegal or sexual behaviour with his travel assistant.'

Geo's Rentboy.com profile listed stripping among his interests. He described himself as 'sensual', 'masculine' and 'up for anything'. 'I will do anything you say as long as you ask,' he said.

Professor Rekers is an officer of the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), a 'professional, scientific organisation that offers hope to those who struggle with unwanted homosexuality'.

He told one blogger who contacted him on Facebook that he discussed his Christian beliefs with Geo.

He said: 'If you talk with my travel assistant you will find I spent a great deal of time sharing scientific information on the desirability of abandoning homosexual intercourse, and I shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with him in great detail.'

Professor Rekers took down his Facebook page yesterday and Geo's Rentboy.com profile has also been removed.

Both men deny they had a sexual relationship during their European jaunt.

Professor Rekers is widely known in the U.S. In 2008, he testified as an expert in favour of upholding a ban on gay adoption in Florida.

He is also a founding member of the Family Research Council, America's most powerful Christian lobbying group, and has written books about 'curing' homosexuality including Growing Up Straight: What Families Should Know About Homosexuality.

Sad that George Rekers was outed like this. Tisk tisk. I think George should have been allowed to come out on his own. Who knows what loving relationship he could have sparked with "Geo". :( Now it will be difficult for them to get together again without the public watching.

Ha! "Geo" is a rent boy who was looking to get paid, while Rekers was looking to satisfy his lust. There is no looking for a loving relationship. Your sympathy is misplaced.

This incident does not prove Rekers is homosexual anymore than a man committing adultery proves he is a polygamist.

Adultery and polygamy are two different things. Rekers may not be homosexual but he's at least bisexual.

Attacking the mans personal choices, how................hypocritical and goose-stepping like.

People who like to be pooped on understand its deviant behavior, they generally don't promote the fact they like feces facials.

Nobody was attacking him for choosing to hire a prostitute...although that may be illegal.

I think the man's hypocrisy is the issue here.

I don't see how that would be relevant unless the guy was vehemently against people getting pooped on and then was caught being pooped on.

Also, being anti-deviant behavior promotes goose stepping and conformity.

If i was into smearing poop all over my body, which I am not, I would hope i would have enough sense to realize its not something I would want to promote as healthy behavior.

What he does in private I'm not so concerned about, if he chose make that behavior public I wouldn't vote for his poop-face.

And what does that have to do with this thread? If you did that and then led a big campaign against people who did it that would be hypocritical.

If you like dressing up as Wonder Woman for sex and then led some campaign against role playing it would be hypocritical.

I imagine he could feel quite guilty about being attracted to men due to some insane religious upbringing. Doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite.

Such as a gay man MUST be devout in supporting gays rights. You carry the belief that someones political orientation must match their sexual orientation, a dogmatic belief you share with the Westburro Baptist Church.

It becomes extremely funny when I look at what other issues you support so vehemently.
