EDMONTON -- A sex attack on a Grade 2 student by a man lurking in the washroom of her school Monday has horrified parents and prompted officials to order all students to take their bathroom breaks in pairs.

The girl was attacked around 10:15 a.m. as she stopped to use the washroom on the way out to the playground during morning recess at Oliver School, just west of Edmonton's downtown.

"An unknown male approached her from one of the stalls in the girls' bathroom, dragged her into the stall and sexually assaulted her,'' police spokesman Jeff Wuite said.

Principal Judy Wilkie held two separate assemblies, for younger kids and older ones, to tell them what happened.

Jane Farrell, a spokeswoman for Edmonton public schools, said the students at Oliver were advised to go in pairs to the washrooms from now on. As well, Wilkie asked them not to question the girl too much when she returns to school because her experience has obviously been traumatic.

So wait a minute - she stood up there in front of all of them and mentioned the girl by name? Guess there's no protecting the victim's identity and so on?

Police are seeking a black man of about 30 who was wearing a red jacket and had orange or yellow streaks in his hair.

If this were an American case he'd have got off because the 'racism' in the article causing unfair bias....or some such shit.

How he entered the school was a mystery. Farrell said most doors are kept locked except for a few minutes before recess. The only door that is regularly kept unlocked is the front entrance near the office.

This is weird - why would they only unlock the doors for a little while before recess? Do they lock them again as soon as recess starts?

That is pretty disturbing. The girl didn't go through enough already that she has to be publicly humiliated in front of her whole school. People are gonna ask her all kinds of questions no doubt. Teacher should have kept her mouth shut.:hmm:

That would be big-time illegal here, since it would probably compromise the investigation.

If this were an American case every black person within 50 miles would be getting pulled over for 'routine' traffic stops, and that would be how he gets off for 'racism'...not the newspaper description.

Gato, I was having a wise-ass moment - based on all the 'racial' BS threads around these days

Besides, if it were an American case they'd have Oprah there and about 10 hasbeen superstars 'just trying to make a difference'
