Having never used a ferry... I heard the voices ont he video mention the guy put the rope on his truck. Is it common on a ferry to rope your vehicle to it, and perhaps he didn't realize that the rope was attached to the dock instead of to the boat?

Well been on a few Motor Vehicle ships ,and for a ferry that size ,tying a vehicle down is pointless.A Ferry that size isn't going to be going out in heavy weather and even when you tie a vehicle down you attach to the axles not the bumpers.I can't see how that would have happened except on purpose.
